I had to let go of my boy today. He was 13 years old, and otherwise fairly healthy apart from some pretty serious eye problems and a bad heart murmur. Yesterday he rubbed his sore eye and punctured the cornea. He was already blind, in pain...and didn't have a great quality of life anymore. My family understandably did not want to put him through an operation to remove his eyes.

He had a great last day today and was dosed up on pain relief. Ate a pack of bacon and a few jaffa cakes. Had a couple of nice walks and a play in the garden with his toys. The vet came to our house and had to sedate him as he was not going without a fight. In a way it was nice to see that he still had it in him.

I don't really know what to do anymore. He was my world.

This is my favourite photo of him at the moment, taken last year before all his eye problems started.

So very sorry, what a lovely dog, such a kind face! It hurts, they are a massive part of your life, but you will come through it and remember him with a smile.

Gentle hugs

He was a lovely looking dog .
I lost my best friend last August I was and am still heart broken I still can't look at a picture of him.
But three weeks ago I went to a puppy party my friend had to help socialise her pups who where about to go to their new homes .
I saw them and knew I was ready she did not have a yellow dog but I got on the phone and I pick up my puppy on Friday .
I have Been thinking of my old boy all week and crying lots but this letting go another pup is always the salve that makes it ok .
It's a uniquely horrible experience losing a special dog but you do get through it .
Have a hug from me .

So sorry about your boy, what a beautiful photo - you need to get this framed or a portrait done from this. He really was a stunning good looking dog.

Heartbreaking I know

OI where are the pictures, you can't go saying you have a new pup without sharing pictures you know :).

I still miss my mare and find it hard but today I went to see a new mare, I will never forget my girl but this is time and a new focus.

They maybe gone but never - ever forgotten.

Thank you everyone.
The reality of him not being around anymore has really hit me hard this morning.

I did draw this picture of him a couple of years ago that I have hanging up.

But may get the first photo blown up onto canvas as his eyes really captivate me in that one.

I've nothing unique to add, just wanted to say how sorry I am, he was obviously a very loved dog. I'm sure it will take a long time to adjust to not having your best friend around, big hugs xx
