I had to let go of my boy today. He was 13 years old, and otherwise fairly healthy apart from some pretty serious eye problems and a bad heart murmur. Yesterday he rubbed his sore eye and punctured the cornea. He was already blind, in pain...and didn't have a great quality of life anymore. My family understandably did not want to put him through an operation to remove his eyes.
He had a great last day today and was dosed up on pain relief. Ate a pack of bacon and a few jaffa cakes. Had a couple of nice walks and a play in the garden with his toys. The vet came to our house and had to sedate him as he was not going without a fight. In a way it was nice to see that he still had it in him.
I don't really know what to do anymore. He was my world.
This is my favourite photo of him at the moment, taken last year before all his eye problems started.
