Loved it!
Rage didn't fail to rise to the occasion and bounced down the ramp ready to race
Walked him around the car park for what seemed like forever before I ventured inside with him, but he was still about 17hh high and being very 'lively' which had included him cantering sideways as soon as my ass touched the saddle
Attempted to warm him up indoors but his eyes were literally out on stalks and we didn't really get very far with that, he just wasn't listening at all
Then it was our turn, LOL! Entered between the boards at A, on tiptoe as the boards were going to eat him, up the centre line and then spooked at the judges who were also blatently there to eat him
. By this point I was pissing myself
Managed to keep him within the boards for the rest of the test (only tried to duck out between them once!
) and spooked at the judges during the first canter and broke, cue Meg trotting the rest of the movement
2nd canter was much better, Free walk was RUBBISH! Nice turn up the centre line and then spooked at the halt and ended up on the quarter line
Ended up with 57.5% and 40 collectives (
).
Took him back to the warm up afterwards to try and suss out how long it takes to settle him for next time, but I made no progress with that at all after 45mins, so gave up! He just needs more mileage (and perhaps a calmer!) but I was happy
He looked every inch the eventer, just one that was about to go XC rather than dressage!
Judge's comment read "Sweet horse, but today was just too much! Needs to relax, work more confidently into the contact and become supple around riders inside leg" Everything he normally is at home, but it'll come
The warm up was lovely and quiet (me and one other when I warmed up for my test
), and the surface in the new arena was gorgeous to ride on. Am considering being brave and taking Boo as well to the next one as the warm ups were so civilised, but that might pile the pressure on a bit as I'd probably want to do two tests with Rage as well, one as a much needed warm-up/practise, which could lead to me doing a bad super-woman impression as they run the two prelim classes at the same time, in different arenas.... trying to do it all could lead to me going grey prematurely I think!
