It's going to be a bit long, sorry.
I have a bit of dilemma, something to ponder about...
I do buy and sell horses as a part of my business, but I mainly sell sports youngstock/competition horses.
However, I have a lovely chap that has been with me for 18 months now, I bought him out of pity, really, for his owner's not for him - he's OK. Turned him out for few months and then brought back to work, found him a job - being my groom's toy/schoolmaster/best friend, but the groom in question is off to uni in September and I need to sell... have no idea how much to ask for him though, so here it goes:

16 hh, 11 years old bay gelding, Polish Warmblood, chunky type - think welsh/TB cross and you get the idea
grin.gif

decently put together, straight moving, easy going chap, lovely to do from the ground, adores grooming, cuddling and all the fuss. Very good doer, barefoot even doing roadwork, hacks out sensibly alone and in company although not really tested in heavy traffic or galloping in huge open spaces - these are not available to me
tongue.gif

will pop a jump and has scope, has competed back in Poland up to 110 cm, but doesn't love it as such - is happy to play with jumps, but not reliable competition horse IMO.
With a bit more schooling would do OK in RC or low level BD dressage, should be a dream for fun rides etc.
Loads well, travels OK in lorry or trailer.
ABSOLUTELY no vices.
So, how much should I ask? I am after a good home, where he will be loved and appreciated for how loving he is
smile.gif

tbh because of his age and the fact he is sound most people would want to do some sort of low level competition with him, maybe even go further
frown.gif
and it sounds like he isnt interested in the jumping
crazy.gif
)
I personally wouldnt pay any more than £1800 for him
Why....happy to play with jumps....unreliable competeing
frown.gif

not proven in heavy traffic
frown.gif
(not an issue to a country gal...unless they meet tractors combines etc)
Bit more schooloing...he is eleven and shown tendencies to not enjoy what he has done previous
frown.gif

he may be a nice chap...but for fun rides etc....he can only be classed as a happy hacker(people only have word that he will make a RC horse, but if he soo unreliable???jumping then he wont
crazy.gif
!!
Sorry if sounds harsh but i personally wouldnt pay alot in this climate on your description

Without seeing photos sometimes it can be difficult to put a price on and it depends on what type of market you are hoping to advertise him under. As a happy hacker probably around 2K I'd imagine, if you are looking for a bit more for him, then RC horses generally go for around 3.5K but you'd have to put the work in. I dunno though, mention the words "Polish WB" and perhaps you'd get a little more just for novelty value.

hmmm, I think I need to do a bit of more explaining...

Reliable competition horse - jumps consistently dc at 120
this one - will jump 3' course, maybe BN

He is ok with tractors, knacker's lorry, livestock trailers, combains and he has seen a bus once or twice, but has not been hacked on side of an A/B road:) Goes in water, jumps logs, ditches and dry stone walls.

Don't really know why you think he doesn't enjoy work?

Anyway, thanks for your input:) I don't mind harsh at all:)

LOL, Tia, I like the 'novelty value'
grin.gif

I am not looking to sell as a happy hack, I am probably a bit harsh on him TBH.
He works in a nice outline in all three paces, does a flying change and very basic lateral work, I think for a RC that should do? Frankly, I have never been to a RC
blush.gif

Just with you saying he dosnt love "jumping as such"???
now you have explained a little more clearly then i would be asking more £3k plus(no horse is voluntarilarly hacked on an a road
smile.gif
)
as tia says, pics would probably help us judge a more accurate price
smile.gif

I apologise
smile.gif

have more to go on now

I think you need to sell his abilities a little more than you have on here

smile.gif

Yeah, pictures - don't have any up to date ones I am afraid, the photo session is due on Monday:) and I don't even have a photobucket account - I am really behind the times with technology!

No need to apologise, I get constantly reminded that I need to be less harsh on so called allrounders, but as I said, I haven't even been to a RC in my life...

To be honest, he sounds like he would make a good little RC horse; most RCers just want something that will do a bit of everything and they don't generally expect too much of them, just getting round is often good enough
grin.gif
. Is there any way you could get him to a couple of shows? Do you have a photo of him that we could see? What figure did you have in mind for him?

As I say, you might be able to stretch it out a bit because of his breeding (providing he actually has the Polish passport to go with him). It's really difficult though, judging by what you have now said, I'd say 3.5K for sure, perhaps a little more if he is exquisite to look at!
grin.gif

No photo atm, but will get some on MOnday.
TBH I wasn't thinking of competing him myself, but needs must, so it is an option. I don't really have a figure in mind, not a clue really - was thinking along the lines of 'my 4/5 year olds sell for £7-10K, so he can't be worth more than £4K'.
He has a Polish passport, he is very well bred and I have imported him personally.
He is straight and well put together, but I would call him more on the cute/cuddly side than handsome pansy WB if that makes sense?

Email them to me on Monday and I can put them up on my photobucket account if you like.

that's a lovely offer
grin.gif
but I think it is about time I opened one for myself - will be very proud of me if I manage

If he can do what you say comfortably, and as you say he has a fantastic nature then i would be selling his abilities
smile.gif

huge market for safe...reliable riding club horses here
smile.gif

3.5k
grin.gif

Well I managed to open a photobucket account so I'm sure there's hope for you!
grin.gif

I don't know - you see you may still be selling him short here. If he was personally imported, has a Polish passport and decent bloodlines AND does all the RC stuff to a decent level, then you could get over 4K for him. I know what it's like though when you get out of your comfort zone - I have horses in from time to time and because they are not what I do, I sometimes am a bit unsure of where to place them in the marketplace and I probably underprice those sorts too
crazy.gif
. I guess it really comes down to how much you want to sell and how much profit you will have made overall. I know where you are at with this one - I have one of my own at present that I am not clear on the value of him in the marketplace; but I honestly think that is because I picked him up for next to nothing, so if I advertised him I would probably be doing him an injustice and advertise him for peanuts ... which I know I shouldn't! I never like to put them in too cheap otherwise you end up with the numpties bugging the life out of you.

That's the thing you see... Of course I want to sell, I have no need for him
tongue.gif
, not desperate though - I'm never desperate to sell.
I don't want the bargain basement/numpty/joyrider etc bothering me, so won't go under £2K wether he is worth it or not!
Ideally I would like him gone before my great move, it would be 1 less to worry about, but it won't change much one way or another.
As to profit... hmmm, let's just say that it cost me more to transport him from Poland than to buy him in the first place
grin.gif

Do you think I should put in the ad that he is related to Tamarillo
grin.gif
? He is, honestly, on his sire side

God I'm dying to see this blooming horse now! Aren't you Hadfos?
grin.gif

[/ QUOTE ]
yes, damn right i am...he sounds like the ideal riding club type
smile.gif

I think you should list ALL of his pluses (pedigree and all) as you would for your regular stock. Forget about that he isn't what you usually sell and focus on just him and his attributes. I also won't be advertising my guy for under 2K either (even though I paid absolutely nothing like that for him) - that just opens the floodgates for so many muppets. Just remember that people DO pay for something a bit different, they WILL pay for something that has a known name (no matter how far back, Lol!) and good RC horses are always in demand but there is a cap on RC horses so you have to be careful with your pricing and not have it too high or too low. Somewhere between 3.5k and 4k would be a safe sell in my opinion.

Oh crikey I forgot about the big move! Not long now eh? Just a few weeks it must be? I hope it goes well for you - scary wary thought trying to get all those animals to their new home, but the thought of it is usually worse than the actual doing it.

if his work is up to a decent level which sounds like it is then yes i would mention it
smile.gif

i think you are underselling this guy
crazy.gif
...sounds like he will make somebody very happy and you should maybe price him accordingley
smile.gif

Start at £4k...if you get interest then great if not drop by couple hundred.....this climate shite in uk for selling anyway
crazy.gif
....dont give away if you can afford to hang on
smile.gif

Hopefully beginning of May, things did get a bit delayed
smile.gif

TBH the only scary thought is moving Holly the untransportable and her little mate, everything pales into insignificance compared with her ladyship and her tantrums
grin.gif
I think I will get a prof transporter and arrange not to be present at the time
blush.gif

Another question, would you go for Horsemart, Horsequest or something completely different? BTW I am not paying for an ad in HH
tongue.gif

I will make a special post for you and Hadfos with his piccies
grin.gif

I have to zip out to drop daughter at the movie theatre in town but will be back in 15 minutes.
crazy.gif

I think that is a very good idea re; Holly, Lol! Out of sight out of mind eh?
grin.gif

I'd advertise on Horsequest and Horsemart - they have a pretty decent RC section. If I don't reply to your new photo thread, PM me as I often miss posts when I am whizzing around. I have to zip back outside now again as need to fill up a hay feeder in the babies field.
