lol please can someone look at these photos and tell me this is anything but a ball before I phone the vet looking crazy 😂
My gelding had a swollen sheath yesterday (my fault I accidentally got cooling gel on it while putting it on his legs) anyway that was what caused my close up inspection of the area! The swelling has now gone but I can’t stop looking at this ‘ball’ now I appreciate it is very little I am thinking it could be scar tissue from castration?! It seems to be more prominent when he is resting a leg and not very visible when he’s not. He lets me feel it and I do feel that something is in there and it is rather ball shaped! He is 9 for context and castrated before I got him, going off a whim would say it was probably 2018?
He has had his sheath cleaned multiple times since I’ve owned him and no one has ever said anything about that, to be fair it is mostly visible when looking at him from between his back legs…..

To be fair, it could be a small hernia which is purely fluid-filled. Worth a chat with your vet if you are concerned. Highly unlikely to be a significant issue, but if there is communication (an entrance) between the abdomen and the area you can see it would be worth knowing, just so you know to keep an eye on it in case it ever changes. An ultrasound should be all that's needed to know for sure.

I knew I came back on the forum for a reason, I can answer this one! It’s likely to be a hydrocele. I posted exactly this same thing this time last year and ended up getting him ultra sounded and that was the conclusion. A fluid filled painless swelling in the castration site. Cause not fully known. Can be surgically removed if the size causes issues but otherwise apparently harmless. It comes and goes a bit with my gelding.

Pony on our yard had one too. There was a bit of speculation that he was a rig, but turned out to be a hydrocele.

Just googled what a hydrocele is and I think that is bang on. Vet out end of the month for vacs so will ask them but that eases my panic 😂 as I say I can’t say for certain how long it’s been there as I only noticed it by chance the other day, will keep an eye on it now for any changes.
Thanks again!

My old boy also has one. He's 26 now. Had him vetted as a 4yr old and had to wait a week for the rig test because of it.
