My girl has laminitis again - update

Well she has been sound coming in and out of the sand turnout for three days and so yesterday she went out in the big field for an hour. Despite having a good gallop or ten, she came in sound, and was sound walking out this morning. So I decided to take her for a five minute walk under saddle in the arena. Unfortunately I realised that she was not quite right. Not lame, but not really forward and felt as though she wasn't quite right on that foot. Obviously my weight on her made the difference and so I got off after only circuit of the arena. I'm not too bothered though. She's getting better and that's all that matters.

Back on board today and she's...sound! yay! Just walking her around though for five minutes and will slowly build it back up. :)

Great news she is sound again. So sorrythis is a problem:( I soak everything she is moving from Happy hoof to oat straw chaff and a lo cal balancer to cut some more cals and restricted grazing it is a never ending job. Someone I knew fed coolstance copra to an EMS horse and he did well in it. Good luck.

Thanks, it is so frustrating, isn't it?

He is the head vet at the practice and didn't seem concerned by the hollow sound. He was convinced it was lgl and that I had to get more weight off her. This will be difficult without leaving her for several hours at a time without hay. :( He also wanted her hard feed cutting down. She only gets a scoop of pure easy twice daily. Trouble is, she hates the taste of her pro hoof so reducing this will make her leave it all together. I will have to experiment and reduce it as much as I can and also reduce the pro hoof. Poor girl. Vet is going to come and check her again in three weeks.

Sorry reading this thread backwards!...as you do.

I noticed you mention a product calld pro hoof which your horse does not like? My mare was a fussy feeder, I gave her the product from Laminitis Trust - equilife. I have to buy it in the UK and it is expensive but she loves the taste and the difference in her feet was amazing.

Great news Wagtail!! Hopefully this will continue without any interruption on an upward curve.

Thank you. It seems that I just start getting her fit and about to start canter work and she gets another bout of lami. I am not going to take my eye off the ball. Her weight is going to stay at 525 kg or below!

Not heard of that. I'll have a look. Thanks.

Thank you. She will eat the pro hoof but only a third of a dose at a time and lots of spearmint. Will look into the equilife though.

Hope she stays sound this time!

Like I have mentioned before my boy was a similar nightmare to handle his lami, he was so sensitive to grass changes that he became footy at even a few minutes longer in a bald field! I took him on a complete day to day basis, my yard where fantastic and always checked his feet for me and monitered if he was 'abit off', then we knew he had to stay in or he needed more exercise. He was semi retired which was another nightmare, but I just got him out an about for an hour a day and he throughly enjoyed his daily jog around the village, also did him the world of good.

What do you normally do with her when shes fit? Schooling, hacking, competing? Just a brisk walk up hills worked for him! Maybe taking your time before canter work would help, lami causes massive strain and damage to the laminea (sp?) and maybe she is a sensitive soul and still 'feels' it.

Thank you. I do schooling with her mostly. I was hoping to get her fit enough to do a bit of dressage. She's not the most sane horse to hack out on and we have to cross a very fast A road to get to our off road hacking, so I tend not to.
