Dorey
This feels like “mummy’s big girl” or something similar, it feels as if you are so fond of her and have a fabulous relationship in terms of trust, but equally that trust has been hard won with this mare, as initially she lacked confidence, it is as if she has had “a whole different life” before she came to you and she wasn’t very happy when she arrived, however since that time she has settled in very well, and learnt to trust you.

She came to me via a dealer, and was a little insecure! 7 years down the line I'd like to think we had a good relationship!!!

She is a lovely big girl, but equally “moves quickly” her head isn’t at all slow! She has a great brain too and learns well and retains things from just the one lesson. She will try anything for you and hopes that she gets things right, showing me that she is very earnest.

Absolutely Dor to a tee - she only needs to learn something once!

I do feel that you have done a lot of groundwork with her, concentrating on that at times so that she gains her confidence with you. I feel that when you got her she could be bargy/pushy and you have worked so very gently and carefully to get her to respect space but equally not flinch when you ask her things.

Absolutely Dor again!

I do feel that she was initially headshy with you, and then still is sometimes but with Vets/dentists etc, not with you anymore, but she can revert to this if she isn’t sure of someone.

She tends to smack people with her head when she's unsure!

She feels borderline between being independent and being a loner, in that she is always quite happy munching out in the field away from others, as if she has always “had to look after herself” having said that she is a loner in a herd rather than wanting to be on her own. She would always feels safer in company when out at grass.

Again, Dor to a tee! She has her friends, but will always be out the back eating and staying out of people's way!

I feel that she is “perfect” in that you have worked to get her how you want her, and she is strong in terms of staying sound, true in gait and has a great nature, is forward going, never ever boring and really great fun. She feels that she and you have a special relationship and she is so confident within this, it is lovely to see, especially as I can see that you haven’t taken that for granted.

I like this a lot, because from my side, it is true! Nice to hear the same from Dorian!

I keep seeing this groundwork, and you have her on a long line, like a Parelli line or similar, I am not sure what you are doing but she has referred to it again. I do feel that was “in the past” and that you would still remind her of things but that she learnt them a long time ago.

Again, to a tee, I do a lot of work on a lunge line - and I actually taught her how to lunge!

I always check if horses are suffering in the readings, but I feel that she is in no pain, has no problems and doesn’t have anything terrible to tell you.

What a relief!!

She shows me a saddle as if you had a saddle fitting problem in the past with her, but that is “solved” now “by using something different” (those were her words, I can’t work out what she means by that, but I feel that it would be by using a different saddle pad or similar, rather than totally changing everything. I feel that I am seeing a treeless saddle in the past too.

I have talked about a treeless saddle in her presence, but not got her one! However, am now happy that her saddle is a problem (had my suspicions!)

In terms of at work, she feels that she is well behaved, occasionally a worrier but she would be fine with most traffic etc, just not so good with “things that make funny noises”, then she would be using her imagination and thinking it would “hurt her” you would then get her bum moving away from it, but no nasty behaviour.

When she spooks, she tends to walk backwards! But she tends not to spook so much!

I don’t feel that she is ever nasty Kat, she feels like a mainly gentle mare with you, as with most mares she can chase the odd other horse away with her teeth, but she isn’t horribly mareish, just tells them to stay away, and if they do great she is happy. I do feel that she is well bred and that you have plans for her to breed one day, but not yet! I keep seeing the word “baby” so I don’t exactly know, but I feel that you have talked about this one day in the future.

Actually... she has a baby at foot!!! I do wonder about the breeding though!!

When I talk to her I constantly get the word “strong” as if she is strong and well balanced when ridden, not because she pulls. She like a lot of horses would be terrible in the wrong hands, because she needs to get her confidence from you and if she had an inexperienced rider, she wouldn’t be as good as she is, but she is happy with you and feels that she can give you her confidence as you “look after her”.

Again, Dorey to a tee!!! She can be strong, but needs a confident rider before she's brave enough to act strong!!

She does like her food, but not in a manic eater way, just that she would wait for a moment of politeness before she at, but the minute you indicate she goes for it, but is never horrible and rude.

Dorey is not allowed to eat until I tell her! Spot on!

Basically Kat I can find nothing wrong with this mare that you haven’t already worked on and changed. She seems to be very happy with you and her life. Much more so than her past which she felt was “frightening” but I feel that was due to people “expecting too much of her without teaching her first” that is why it is important that she trusts you to teach her, and is happy and calm when you do.

She went through a market and a dealer and was broken in ireland!

She feels like she has really fitted into her home and you have plans for her in the future, I get the words “breed society” so she must be registered in this country with her breed.

She is the happiest now she has been for a while! However, more mention of posh breeding... I wish I knew who her parents were!!

Carrie
This pony feels like when you got her she was your young and bright future prospect with a much more outgoing personality than your grey mare. This pony is fun and wants to have fun, always asking questions “why are you doing that, shall I help, what if I stand there, Oh, you want me where?” like a chatty child but with a lovely questioning personality. I keep getting “fun” because the pony makes me feel that she is fun.

Fun she was! And although she was 16 when I got her, I was complimented on my lovely new youngster when she was 20!! She obviously felt young at heart!

I feel that she has always trusted you, as in, you had her from young, she developed her relationship with you in a nice gentle way, and she has never had reason not to trust you. That feels like you have worked with her to gain her confidence and trust and that she has responded really well.

The trust part is true, as Carrie was very much MY horse and could not be handled by just anyone!

I feel that she will always ask “what do you want me to do?” in a quizzical way and you will know she wants to be included in everything.

True. Couldn't leave her out of anything!

There is a feeling now if this being “in the past” and that you have moved on from there, and things are different now.

Just a little bit....

I feel that she was quick to learn and enjoyed being with humans and would love being shown or watched when she does go out and about and would be a nice show off! Only in that she loved being praised, watched and told she was pretty.

Oh hell yeah! Carrie adored being centre of attention!!!

She is the happiest girl I have seen for a long time, but again that feels because she has a happy home and is settled and doesn’t have any requirements that are not being met.

I imagine that is definitely the case - but by this point I was in tears!

She could definitely sometimes be cheeky but only with a “do you want me to stand nicely here or here?” question that would mean that she would happily stand for ages with people admiring her even if you weren’t ready for her to stand still then!

Again, she did love being centre of attention, but standing still for it wasn't her forte!

Kat does she have three names? I feel that they would be on her passport and that there are three, not sure if I mean a prefix and second name with a further pet name or what but that is what she has said. Again I feel that she is very well bred, and has champions in her bloodlines. She shows me her passport and I feel that you and she are very proud of what is in there, it feels that she came from amazing breeding stock and that she is a star!

She does have three names - ILPH Waltham Cariad!! She's a Nebo/Derwyn welsh cob with pretty blue blood! I have always been proud of her breeding!

I feel that her only bad fault is not listening and that is because she is still talking, if that makes sense, the same as above, it will be “do you want me here, or here” and you would be saying, “stand still” to her, because she is trying so hard that she misses the point! Having said that it would only be her cheekiness or confident behaviour, she wouldn’t be nasty at all.

Yes, this makes perfect sense, and is very Carrie.

I feel when she was younger she could be a handful to lead, as I get her dancing round on a lead rope, but again she isn’t like that now, she has moved on from there.

This is part of the reason she was often mistaken for a baby - her dancing! ANd we always called it dancing!

Again she is strong in her body, I don’t feel any pain at all, but also strong in her mind, she does rather like doing things “her way” but will go “ok” if you say “no to her”.

Carrie always did things her way, always!

I feel that she is very forward going and really fast, faster than you would expect her to be, but not nasty, just able to run and run. She would give the odd thoroughbred a run for their money, and she wouldn’t give up ever! She was built to run, so her breeding was for strength and pace, apparently.

Interesting. She has "run and run" a couple of times, but she prefered to do it in trot!! She could out race anything in canter simply by trotting!

She feels that she has a wonderful gait and that you could watch her for hours out at grass saying “oh wow, look how pretty she is”.

Could do - have done, many a time!

Again she is talking about her passport and breeding, I am obviously missing something here too, in that there is something in her passport that I need to see but that she is bred from the most amazing examples of her breed and was exactly what you wanted from her as a horse.

That she was!

I can see nothing nasty about this horse, but equally still feel that I have missed something big, sorry!

Yes, she did. Carrie died 7 years ago. The big thing about her passport is that she never had one, just the old style of certificate and a pedigree. I felt a bit guilty for that, but didn't wish to give too much away because I talk about the girls on here so much!

All in all, I'm delighted with the readings!

May I ask a really thick question? :o

If you know all these things about your horse (which is implied by the "Dorey to a tee" etc) why do you need someone to "read" your horse and tell you the stuff? :o

Sorry, told you it was daft!

Oh there are things in there I wanted to find out, I just didn't ask specifically (in case it was a leading question!) and I found them out.

We've had readings in person before and it's actually how we found out Milo's true breeding! We were told german warmblood, but the psychic said camel. Turns out Dad was an arab!!!

I feel that she is “perfect” in that you have worked to get her how you want her, and she is strong in terms of staying sound, true in gait and has a great nature, is forward going, never ever boring and really great fun. I only read about your first horse and it is lovely to read and I guess they do sometimes tell you a lot. However, reading this paragraph, I thought 'but that would be true for my horse too' and I expect for others. Whilst you have been told a lot of things that are great for you but perhaps the odd thing that was said could be a little more general?
