My horses is named after a loaf of bread...... Any other silly registered names?

Well Thank god I have gotton to choose my mares passport name but here is what the problem is - Her Dams registered name is " Osama Bin Betsie" - Imagie that the reaction of that is going to be when called out over a tannoy at classes I do next year when they state the breeding lines!

My mare came with a really boring name = "prefix" Patch II - why when you have a prefix would you name two mares Patch?

Reading this thread with interest. I am surprised at only one mention of a registered prefix. It is of course not essential, but in the goat world, most owners/breeders have a prefix against which another name is added. This means that everyone can have a goat called 'Polly', but all the registered Prefix names are unique as the registered name becomes 'Prefix' Polly.

Does the horse world not make as much use of this mechanism?

Three of mine have a prefix, Nebo Gypsy from the Nebo Welsh Cobs and Penarnan MayaMoon and Pencarnan Gwenllian from the Pencarnan Miniature Stud in Pembrokshire. Also I trhink Cefn Glan Rosebud is a preifix also but would have to look into that to find out for sure. Oh nearly forgot my cob is Crugeran Celt from the Crugeran Welsh cob stud in North Wales.

I had a spotted stallion named: Ding Dong Have a Good Day! Ack! I changed his show name to "Chock Full of Nuts"...that may not have been an improvement.

I had a mare named, "The Mare".

A lovely Gelderlander named: Grosso. Phew, what a horrid name and I never changed it.

I work for a PIA and whilst sorting and filing through horses' paper files I came across horses called 'No Sex Please', 'I Don't Know' and 'Callitwotuwant' (which was clearly the response from the owner's partner when she asked for his suggestions!)

I know of a few people who have registered prefixes that seem to have lost the plot when it comes to naming their horses though, completely baffles me!

I was bored the other day and browsing through results of some local competitions and came across a horse called Hip Hop Ipod.
