My long legs on my new teeny weeny microhorse!

Hey!

I got a new baby pony (whose mum was a Blue Peter pony!) to play with and bring on and she's teeny weeny!! She is concentrated awesome though and is coming on brilliantly. So far I have just been riding her with my (long) legs squished up in my event saddle and I think I look tall on her....

Well today for the first time I braved to see how awfully tall I would look and she wore the dressage saddle! I was already cringing when I looked at the length of my stirrups, dangling when I was tacking her up, but I carried on!! My friend took the pictures and although I do look tall on her, I'm pleased that I don't look too awfully big on her!!!

Im really pleased, I know there will still be less chocolate and gin for me whilst she's here for me to ride, but I thought the pictures and my long legs would look a lot worse than they do!!!!

She still looks very small when she stands next to my other horse!!

Lovely :) I'm around 5'9 on a 14.2 with a dressage saddle so feel your pain. Swan neck spurs have been my saviour, allow me to get my leg on a little without having to bend my knees just to touch her. Obviously I'm not advocating that on a baby :)

P.S I want to steal all your matchy
 
She looks fab and in my opinion you look no bigger than the right size on her! I know that feeling though - My legs used to go down to my 15.2hhs elbow and I used to feel a bit big (went from a 16hh to a 15.2hh) but once you've looked at vids and pics you realise you're fine. She's absolutely stunning I'm sure you'll find a lovely home and enjoy her lots in the meantime :)
 
I don't think you look at all tall on her. I think she is a perfect size for you. I am 5'9 and will soon be riding my 14.3 WB, now that is being too tall for your horse!

Im not sure yet! She was very cute about jumping so I am tempted to keep her for a little while and get her out to do an 80 but I will see how it goes. If the perfect home came along sooner then I would let her go, but I don't think I will advertise her for a little while yet :)

Yes I think that's it! I fully expected to look at the pictures and want to cry and I was really surprised when I didn't feel that way!!!

You are 2" taller and your pony is 1" smaller (ish) so I don't think you should look that much different!

I think because your legs are all bunched up in the jump saddle, it makes you look too big for her. It's a much better picture in the dressage saddle :)

I'm not quite as extreme but I'm 5'6 and ride a barely 14.2hh horse (my legs are too long for my torso so they do dangle a bit too far!).
 
you look absolutely gorgeous together, am very envious of your super figure! (But then mine would be better than it is if i too cut out gin and chocolate :) )

Thank you for saying that! Long term forum members with good memories will remember how fat I used to be (and I really was!) so it's extra nice for you to say!!

The funny thing is now when I meet new people they can't believe that I was so massive!!
 
I'm 6'1" with long legs ... when I ride my 15.1hh my legs definitely dangle. Downside is that tends to make me pull my legs backwards behind the girth in search of horse belly to apply them rather than just press inwards!

Thanks, on both counts. She is awesome, really forward and keen in a nice way. I am swooning over her as I write hahaha
 
Ha ha.... you do NOT look big... a bit squished in the event saddle but perfect in the dressage.

Why people think their legs should end half way down a horses' barrell I will never know! It's fine as long as you can apply aids and some horses are fine working from the calf and seat so ne'er worry about this pony!

Your horses are just fabulous, you seem to do a brilliant job bringing them on! I would love to take one off your hands..! Send her my way. Or the little coloured mare if she's still around :-D
 
You look very well matched. That said....I'd like to go one further and say that you look like a very quiet and kind rider...she is clearly grateful to be ridden well with quiet hands and gentle riding. Just lovely to see a horse looking so happy in it's work...especially a baby!

Thanks :) I still think I look better on the bigger ones, but I'm pleased with how I look on the micro one!!

Yeah there is that!! I do feel more squished in the event saddle which feels odd because I thought for certain I would look worse in the dressage saddle!!

Thank you :) The wonder cow found her new human in the first person who came to see her. It was lovely as we could really cherry pick who had her and she is now in an awesome new home.

Thank you so much for saying. I seem to ride lots of baby ponies at the moment so am quite well practiced in wobbling :)
 
wow shes a stunner! and you look just right on her imo, its all too easy to lose perspective these days when it seems the latest fad is for teeny people to ride huge warmbloods! :D
 
She is very smart - and you look spot on on her. I always find threads like this funny, coming from a world of natives! At 5'8" I do BD (in a dressage saddle) on a 13.1hh (although I do admit it causes balance issues)!! I really like her, she's nicely ridden and looks like she'll make someone a fab horse.

I know! I think they look ridiculous. I can't understand the fascination with huge WBs if they are only 5'3. They would look much better on a horse that is more in proportion to their size. I love it on the very rare occasions where ponies win in BD. Wish it was more often.
 
I don't think you look too big on her at all. Your stirrups are 3 holes too short in the first picture! I'm 5'4" and my mare was a tad over 15.1hh but that was all withers and she really wasn't much over 14.2hh. She was narrow too so my legs were't absorbed by her width. I love the little ones, smart, sassy and always fun to ride. For many years I rode a 12.2hh and didn't feel like a squasher.

I was even thinking I would take the stirrups down a hole or two in the dressage saddle and it would still look fine. :)

Indeed, there is a fascination for massive horses sometimes... I am not anti or pro big or small, I just think we are conditioned to seeing ourselves as looking better or right on a 16.2 + when in fact a lot of us are well short and small enough to ride a much smaller animal.

I still ride a 14.2 and I'm a good 5'9 or 5'10 and long legs. No one has ever said I look too big in my 17 years odd worth of riding him. And we do dressage too.

Only thing in one of my lessons I was told not to let my leg go too far back when asking for certain things that require leg back from girth - as I have long legs and he is shorter than the average bear that ends up with my leg too far far back, exaggerating the aid too much. If I did the same with my leg on a 17hh it would be fine as they have the length of body to take that aid if you follow me. So the difference between my leg on girth and behind girth is only a matter of inches on the small boy.

..I also used to hunch slightly subconsciously trying to make myself look smaller on him - but that just made me look hunched. Sit up tall, ride proud!

Op enjoy your girl, she looks great fun and don't ever think you look too big as you truly dont!
