Yes he does unfortunately they are looking for a home where he can live out and I don't have a suitable grass livery option locally.

I am also on my break from looking due to the heat of the summer far with more heatwaves forecast and quite relieved as it has been far too hot for me to ride or do much.

In case you're still keeping one eye out @SO1 www.nfed.co.uk/ad.php?ref=178859

(I'd want to see a better stood up photo but he sounds fun!)

If you are open to a younger pony now SO1, I know of a lovely 4yr old mare who has done a little bit of everything this year and taken it all in her stride. She's way under budget too as her owner's pregnant so you would have plenty left for professional help. PM me if you'd like.

Oh I thought Barry might be a dodgy dealer and I know we are not to mention dealers.
I didn't realise this because I got an infraction for mentioning one on this thread. So hands up it might have been my fault although another user has mentioned this person twice and that thread still stands.

Apologies if it was my fault. Wasn't intentional, just trying to save someone the heartbreak I've gone through 💔

My sister just told me there is another prolonged heatwave forecast with more to come.

I loathe the hot weather and dread it so in some ways glad I don't have anything to view if it is going to be a roasting hot summer.

Admittedly the gelding looked perfect for me if I had access to a decent grass livery yard that offered part livery. I did have Homey on grass livery for quite a few years but moved due to a horse dying of sycamore poisoning in the fields and just wouldn't risk keeping a horse anywhere with sycamore now. I plan to go back to my old yard which is completely sycamore free but the horses are in overnight all year round.

There is potentially a pony that might be suitable being bought back into work after having a foal that will be ready in the autumn. In the meantime my advert will still run but keeping it very low key.

I may well consider youngsters in the autumn but holding out for the end of the summer when potentially some older ponies may come up after school holidays and before people go to uni.

I'd speak to the sellers and ask why he needs to be out. They say "this is where he's happiest" but I could say that about my two as well - given the choice they'd stay out but they're perfectly fine in the stable with a load of hay and after the first week or so in winter are waiting at the gate from 5pm. Of course it may be that he won't settle in a stable at all but it's worth an ask I think.

SO1, if you' loathe the hot weather' and you are horse hunting in the autumn what will happen next year as, i presume with global warming, its going to get worse? Could you ride in the evenings or mornings or have a loaner?

I am hoping that new pony will be settled in and I would do what I did with Homey for the 14 summers we had together which is either do some light lunging over a few poles, walk in hand, or light hack or a pottle round the school bare back or just wash him down. Even at 8pm it can be 26C sometimes during the heatwaves. There is a cool bridleway which is shaded but I don't really want to be hacking out on my own or leading in hand down it straight away until my new pony has settled in and knows the routes.

I do normally ride quite late in the evenings after work at about 7.30 or 8pm as I don't get there till 7pm.

As nobody else rides in the evenings apart from me whilst my new pony is settling in I would hopefully take afternoons off work for 2 weeks so I could ride whilst others are around and have some lessons. Quite often I was also the only person riding at the weekends as well but the yard staff are on site.

Most of the liveries on the yard are self employed or don't work and ride during the day or have really full on jobs/ family commitments and only ride occasionally and the yard staff help them with exercise. I used to ride 5 times a week but most people rode a lot less. We do have a horse walker and water treadmill so there are other options for exercise in extreme heat.

I have absolutely no problem about riding in rain, snow, wind or cold weather and rode right through the winters with Homey in the floodlit school after work. However he was very good and more of a winter pony as he also hated the heat. There in no guarantee that new pony would behave the same way in the wind and rain. The summer is normally only 3 months of extreme heat at most so there are 9 other months to enjoy riding. If climate change meant that we were getting extremely hot long summers of 30C plus in the south I would probably look at moving somewhere cooler if I could afford to do so.

I had a lesson at the RS today at 7.15pm although still very hot it was ok because it is shady in the indoor school.

Oddly enough it was the autumn and winter and early spring when I really missed being at the yard and I really want a pony for this winter.
