Got down my stables this morning to see half the tack room door missing. Thought Hattie had been cribbing over night and did it in a fit of boredom (she lives out 24/7 and stands under the stable overhang at night) but then when I looked in and saw one of my spurs on the floor, I knew something was not right.

Thankfully, I do not ever keep my good tack down there- only my muddied up cr*p that I use everyday everything else comes home with me but they took my Charles Owen Pro II skull cap that I always wear, my crappy old £5 Kincade lunging bridle and my KK bit. Those were the best things they took and the bit wasn't even mine- it's Hattie's owners that she lent me when I got her on loan!!

It sucks as the door was all in spinters and my OH and my FIL had to take the day off work to come and fix it so lost wages and now I have to buy another KK bit to replace the one gone. I can't even afford to replace the skull with another CO as they are £120 now and I bought mine 2nd hand off of my friend anyways.

I'm glad none of the horses were messed with and only three things got taken but am just annoyed as I work two jobs to be able to afford my horses and always buy tack 2nd hand or when it's on sale and people think that they can just break in and steal the stuff I work hard for.

Rang the police and they gave me a crime number but a fat lot that will do as NFU won't insure my tack down at the field as it's not metal reinforced, etc- it's just a coverted stable that I keep my feed, the everyday stuff like headcollars/wellies, etc and mucking out stuff in.

Biccies for all you that have got this far!

Thank god the horses are ok. I'm so sorry, I would really freak if that was me. Bring back a VERY severe punishment for theft of horse stuff ?

Hope you are ok, that's one big shock. (((((hugs))))

That is so awful!

We got broken into back in October last year and they look my new, well new to me, saddle

, my friends saddle, all our bridles and a few other bits and pieces

. I know just how you feel and agree it's so awful that we work so hard to pay for these things and some tw*t things like can just come along and take everything

. Ba$tards!
At the horses are ok and most of your tack was at home. It's annoying about the insurance. Our insurance company wouldn't pay out because it WAS in a metal shed, they only cover for wooden or brick structures

How horrible.

We decided to add our tack (as recently have some new stuff!) under our house insurance... it is covered wherever it is (it is kept in the house mostly) ie at shows etc and we also have accidental damage cover added to the whole policy. It was much much cheaper and better than what the horse insurance would offer.

There's been a spate of break in's around Notts, the people in the field next to my friends got broken into, fortunatly my friend has a yearling who plays like a puppy and a shire, the pair together are like guard dogs so we think they might have tried but ended up getting chased!

My tack room at home got broken into, basically everything got taken. The worst thing IMO is all those little things that probably have no value to anyone else or no good because there too shabby to sell that youve collected over the years that arnt just there anymore to lay your hands on, like the spare noseband, girth or stirrup leathers. I learnt my lesson from that and only kept rugs and mucky stuff nobody would want to steal after that, although my headcollars went on a few occasions.

These people make me sick. Why dont they get a job like most of us. I only keep the minimum down my yard, like lunge line and whip, grooming etc. Nothing else because i know that its not 'if' its 'when'

The stuff they got away with isn’t worth much to them but it is a pain in the neck to you to try and replace everything.

Hope you get it all sorted soon.

Our tack room was cleared out in 2008. I lost everything except the sidesaddle which I keep at home. Luckily, the house insurance covered it but as you say it's the inconvenience of it all.
Last summer I lost a stable rug and horslyx from my stable. I know that no-one on the yard would do that, so someone must have wandered around our yard when it was quiet. One other owner also lost a rug.

Thanks guys for the support, I knew you all would understand

Just got back from the yard and painting the repaired tackroom door and found my skull cap cover further down the lane on my way home so obviously they dropped that and now have a plain silver helmet but no cover!!

I've been looking on ebay all day to see if my stuff comes up and I'm going to my local tack shop tomorrow (they shut on Weds) as they deal in 2nd hand tack so they will keep their eyes open for me if my stuff comes through the door.

I NEVER keep my saddles in their, especially my side saddle as I couldn't ever afford to replace them and finding ones to fit Hattie was a pain in the bum. I brought more stuff home like spare numnahs and all Hattie's spare boots so there is just one set of everything in there now.

I'm not a million miles away from you and we've had some dodgy characters hanging around and had our fence posts stolen, poo picking tools and our water trough and a gate.
I'll have a look around my local tack shops for you and see if anything comes up
