So far i have established that my welsh D likes to be ridden EVERY other day otherwise he is as sharp as a box of knives
took him in the school Saturday (after 5 days off) and he did his welsh dragon impression for the first 10 mins, it actually took me about 3 mins to persuade him to walk past a barn of sheep! He is such a wimp
his tail was on his back, he was trying to piaffe, head upright ears forward pinged!! got off him and walked him round a few times and he settled. Jumped back on and had some nice work from him.. I have sussed that when he gets tired/bored he will roll his head and become quite impatient in halt transitions. I tend to keep his time in the school for just 20 mins 1 x per week. Hacked him out with 2 other ponies and he was excellent, he did jump a huge puddle from a standstill though!
Yesterday i took him out alone for the first time, he was a bit snorty but soon settled, he was very good and even got him to cross a little stream (running water about 1cm deep
) plenty to spook at including donkeys and fallen trees etc but he wasn't bothered! He's so much better if he is ridden a few times per week.
Had the saddler out today and had his saddle adjusted to fit him, coming back in 4 months to re-adjust - he has alot of filling out to do!
Dentist came too and rasped his teeth - no wolf teeth either
Very excited about him, he certainly has a spark about him and he's a very quick learner and forward going - but he is also opinionated, sharp and definitely has a mind of his own!! but once he's on my side he's very very sweet!
slow and steady is the way forward with this little chap
evrybody seems to love him too and says he should do well in the ring
(his daddy qualified for HOYS last year
)
Not sure if you remember but he had a retained testicle and had a massive op last feb which really took it out of him, he did stop growing and lost condition, however he is looking good now and have a feeling he's going to be a big chunky boy!
This is the first ridden pic (and only one) i have of him (back in December). (flash has been removed, it was the person who helped back him who put it on) Its now gone as he doesn't need it
