Funny how things turn out.

Legrande was the stallion I chose for Amber. She went there to be covered and Mylo was conceived there.

A few weeks ago Myka appeared on the Legrande stud page as her owner planned to start her education. Lottie had just been retired. A friend said to another friend: ‘AE is going to buy that horse’ before I even knew she existed.

After I posted on FB wanting breeder/producer recommendations, someone told me about myka. I went to view, fell in love and decided she was coming home with me.

I only found out after buying her that my friend had called it ages ago.

In the meantime I was looking for somewhere for Mylo to go as his current companion is 30 and I think he needs younger playmates. Turns out they do youngstock livery too.

So today I dropped off Mylo and picked up Myka. Mylo met his dad, said hi to his sister, and I brought Myka home. I can’t believe these 2 utterly gorgeous horses are mine. Feeling very lucky.

Gosh what lovely horses. I remember Legrande from years ago when the Breeding section here was much busier and before H&H clamped down on what was posted there.

Sadly I was breeding ponies so Legrande was not a boy I could use but I'm really impressed with your 2 lovely horses and as above am looking forward to updates.

Congratulations! She's stunning! And Mylo is growing into a great looking boy! How big is he now?
I'm sorry to hear about Lottie. You and she had such a lovely partnership.

Mylo is about 14 hands, but very long legged, so I think he will end up quite big.

Yes I'm very sad about Lottie. She's still on my yard on loan, so at least I get to see her.

Obviously well bred and well brought up horses! They are both lovely.

They are well bred - whether they turn out well brought up remains to to be seen. There is nowhere to hide if they have any issues!

Obviously I know Mylo's breeding, being Amber plus Legrande. But Myka is out of a Balou du Rouet mare, Damsire Sandro Z. I know nothing about those 2 stallions. Hopefully not too sharp or nutty!

Balous are known for being quirky 🫣 They are just quite sensitive and a bit reactive, but I think they're generally nice 'people'
But go off the horse in front of you, not her papers!

I post over on the 3/4 yo thread occasionally, but I want a record here too, so it’s easy to look back.

Myka has been with me for 3.5 weeks and we’ve been pretty busy. She is intelligent, friendly, curious, willing, kind.

She’s also very athletic and has occasionally thrown some fairly impressive shapes when we have mild disagreements about what we’re going to do. Like a horse walks past and she’d like to go with them and I tell her we aren’t quite done yet. Or she wants me in her left eye but I don’t let her switch eyes. But these brief ‘airs above the ground’ moments are short lived. Most of the time she is very focused and cooperative.

Today she did some trot work in tack for first time and there were some bunny hopping as she got used to the feel of the saddle and girth as she moved. She gets quite high off the ground! It’s like she’s on springs. Not sure I’m the best person to be the first one on her if she’s going to pogo stick round the arena.

I hope I can break it down enough that nothing feels too big a deal. I think she’d be fine with me sitting on her. But then there will always be the first time she moves and has to balance the weight of a rider, and that might elicit the same sort of reaction as the saddle. I’ll be guided by Joe on that. If it’s better for him to do it rather than risk me coming off and scaring her then that’s what we’ll do.

However Within a couple of minutes she’d got. used to the saddle and was calm and focused again. So she’s pretty adaptable and accepting of new experiences. I really, REALLY like her. She seems pretty much perfect for me. Feel very lucky.
