Nanny bought a pony!

What is it with certain people on here crying troll all the time?

Can't believe the fuss made. It's the Internet. People sometimes make things up. Who really cares? As long as people aren't being scammed out of money is it really that important?

Being able to say 'I said troll first!' Doesn't make you look clever, just makes you look like you spend far too much of your life on an Internet forum. Especially when it they are obvious trolls, and the funniest thing is, the people that rant on about trolls most of all are usually the ones that post on their threads more than anyone else.

I find it really hard to believe any non horsey parent would go and tell a nanny to get a pony - even harder for a family to let their much loved family friend go into that sort of an environment.
If I am naive then apologies to nanny sarah and I agree - we would all love to help:)

You are being naive......sadly. You are judging this from how you would think and behave. A vast number of people get pets without thinking it through..if people had your attitude, then rescues would not be so overrun,

And as Nanny Sarah has stayed involved with the riding school and seems to have tried to keep in contact with local knowledgeable people..

Of course everyone has to start somewhere with their riding, no one is born knowing everything...it's just that I would not want to be starting at my local A&E department.

But seriously, what you are doing is very dangerous. If you or the parents had even an inkling of how dangerous it was you wouldn't be doing it. I hope you don't learn the hard way.

NannySarah, I'm sure as a childcare professional you're very conscious of child safety, but please do keep in the back of your mind that even the sweetest, littlest pony can bite, kick or stand on children given half a chance - or even by accident.

I'd advise getting the children into pony management / horse care lessons at the riding school asap so they are more instinctively safety aware around horses and ponies and more able to read the pony's signs (ears, tail etc.) to spot when they need to get out of the way in a hurry :)

Best rule of thumb is NEVER to leave an inexperienced child alone near a pony - even for a minute.

My sister managed to put a pitchfork through her foot at the yard when she was little so they don't even need to be near an actual horse to end up in A&E!

I missed this thread!

Cuddles are compulsory as someone else said, so are pictures. If you don't know how to post them on here open a photobucket account upload them to an album on there (make your settings private if you don't want the world at large to see everything you upload there) and then copy the image (IMG) codes for each picture and paste it into a post on here and the pictures should display.

Definately join the pony club. There will be some not so nice kids there but far more lovely ones to boot. Don't take the treatment you have been metered out by some on this forum as the yardstick.

Keep posting any queries you have and I'm sure people will help. Use the block button for those who aren't so helpful or are rude.

Pahaha love this post!

I think the trouble seems to arise from private messages, but no one PMs me really (sad face) so I have managed not to give away my darkest secrets and credit card details :-D

for all of you who think looking after 3 kids (as a job) a small flock of sheep and a pony is not an achievable daily work, my God you must have lead priveledge lives.

and if your attitudes put this person on taking kids and pony to pony club where they could get help and advice when needed then shame on you.

Booboos get a grip, its dangerous crossing the road but we all still do it! its a pony not a fire breathing man eating dragon

I don't understand why so many of you don't think this situation could be real.

Sadly I think it probably happens all too often that people don;t think of the work and responsiblility of owning a pony and just think they have lots of money, some land and some children... whats missing?? Oh yes lets get a pony. It's not even unheard of that people buy shetlands to keep in a garden or shed.

If this lady has been asked to do this by her employees it is not her fault, and as other people have pointed out she is trying to get help about what to do. So why not give some helpful advice instead of useless nasty comments which, as some else has pointed out, may put her off actually going anywhere near a pony club and other people with views like yourselves.

It's such an awful senario for the pony I hope it's fake. A lot of help proper, real life help was offered and remained unacknowledged by the OP in the original thread.

I too find it amusing that people think it's an impossible situation.

I know of a large handful of families who have done this. I used to work for one part time myself.

Answer?

More money than sense.

The ponies have never suffered in either in ones I've known, as again, more money than sense. Most the time they ended up with ridiculously top end stuff, for a pony which probably never needs a Mark Todd rug/custom made Devoucoux tack/matchy matchy outfits....but they have everything catered for. Yes, seen some 'rather silly' errors, which are less than ideal, but they soon learn easily enough andv never made the same mistake twice. How many got a pony when younger with non-horsey parents? I did. Or made silly mistakes yourself you learnt from? I sure did. I remember putting a rug on inside out. :o Shame on me.

I wish the best, and I'm sure you've had enough advice to keep in touch with the riding school/get an instructor/etc that you'll be wise to do. It may worth asking your boss, that you've been advised it would of good interest for both you the children and pony, to get a part time groom/instructor in for an hour or two each day for a few weeks, just to get you all in the swing of things and set the right routine up and gain some more experience, for the safety of everyone.

Or, equally, bring up the subject whether again for the safety of you and the children and pony, whther your boss would be happy to sort out training classes for you, ie, BHS stages. Get you started on training for level 1 and 2 where all basic knowledge will be had and you'll be 'qualified' then.

Onwards and upwards, props to you for rising to the job and trying to sort it. I would never advise anyone to leave a good job they enjoy in this climate and economy, just for the sake of this spanner in the works. Rise to it and try it.

This! Instead of baying for blood, it might actually be useful to post helpful comments. If this is real, surely the pony will benefit form advice from experienced owners?

Agree wholeheartedly. They seem to claim they are "protecting the vulnerable" who could be "taken in".

In fact, they just appear to be engaging in an unpleasant competition to be the first to spot the troll (even though they're probably wrong most times). Why can't people just live and let live?

The sad thing is, if NannySarah is on a wind-up, it further spoils it for the other geunine novices who come on here. Take 'Redmone' as a prime example, who came through 'first-time pony ownership' and is still here, reporting back and progressing brilliantly.

The scenario is a scary one from the child safety aspect, never mind the pony potentially receiving inappropriate care.

Apart from that The_angel_littlelegs stoppit! Too funny.

Like the poster a few above me says, so what if it is made up!? we're not sending her money, meeting her in a secluded location to offer help and being murdered in the process, wasting emotion on her, or any other of the potential horrors of t'interweb.

What really gets me is how people make out pony ownership literally is .. rocket science!! as long as you're sensible(ish) and know where to get advice then it's pretty easy really - afterall we're 'allowed' to breed children and bring them up without 20 years experience and a BHS qualification ;) :D

xx

Well, id just like to personally thank certain members for ensuring the stuck up upper class, elitist image that the general public has of horsey people is upheld. Cheers. (Y)
NannySarah, good luck with your pony. Fortunately it isnt rocket science. It eats grass, c**ps alot (pick it up), front end bites, back end kicks. Kids will soon work that out :)
Pony club is a good idea, as are PMs- as some people dont seem able to keep their thoughts to themselves.

Congratulations! I'm so happy you've found a nice one! If you need any advice or help or queries, feel free to message me and I'll always do my best to help! Please make sure you register him with vets and insure if you want to insure him. Best of luck and keep us updated and posted with pics!

For those that sent me either 'advice' such as buy a 3 year old exracer, no need for a vetting, the more severe the bit the better. Or just plain rude messages of abuse and calling me a troll....well, I'll keep my thoughts on you lot to myself actually ;)

accused of trolling? what awful people to suggest such a thing!

we all know trolls dont exist around these 'ere parts.

How very un-mary poppins-like of them ;)

I wish I'd been born knowing everything about horses like some of the posters on this thread.
Leaves a nasty taste, both this thread and bitchy and bullying nastiness that OP got on her original thread.
Makes me feel very sad and angry :)

Can't quote as on phone but the comment that has annoyes me the most is (and I'm paraphrasing here) "ive looked into PC but if they're like some people on here then no thanks"...
excellent - so the 'troll hunters' have put the OP off the one place where she could get lots of very useful advice. Well done!

:( That's always my concern. The over-zealous jumping in with accusations of new posters not being who they say they are (as if it matters ) probably drives many people away, without getting the help and advice they were seeking. :(

I have followed both threads on here. I am always amazed at the cry of TROLL mainly because how do people know ?

I was a nanny and yes employers do ask for all manner of things, I had to pretend to be a french student whenever the mother-in-law rang !

Secondly i do agree with those who say horse husbandry is not rocket science nor do we need a degree but common sense and a desire to learn.

If you put into google anything query to do with horses within the first 3 or so sites Horseandhoundforum comes up, so that's how Nanny found us.

Why do the people who think that OP is a Troll then have to comment so often and usually congratulating themselves and others for doing so. If you think she is a troll say so, if you must, then butt out.

OP try the PC yes some of them are like those that have been so rude on here but a lot of them are not. I do wonder how many troll callers on here are born to horses or did they just learn the same way as most of us but forget ! If OP is a troll then we have not lost anything.

Seriously? Epic  :D

I must say, I don't "get" what all the excitement is on this thread - it seems a reasonably plausible scenario to me...

I dont know if this is true or not but I believe it is perfectly possible. At my current job I do accounts and am also PA to the director and his wife. They decided they wanted white peacocks, I found them white peacocks and learnt how to look after them, they wanted highland cows, they got 2 young highland cows and again I learnt everything I needed to from the lady we bought them from and online. It is presumed as I have horse experience I will know how to care for a cow, in actuality they are nothing like the same and learnt everything I need to know by doing research. By treating someone this way they will be much more reluctant to ask for advice and therefore more prone to accidents.

I also really wish my nanny when I was a child was sent out to buy me a pony, it would have new my absolute dream!!

Also like to add that when I first found this forum before posting I often peruse relevant threads for advice. If someone is considering buying a children's first pony and is wanting a little advice I hope they don't find the earlier thread as they will be scared sh**less of asking any questions!
