NED IS FOUND! - You guys are really the best!

Haha! Very true :P
I just hope I could help in some way, if god forbid, it happens so someone else.

I never thought he would actually run away. He's always jumped out, but never gone far. He must have been determined, it's not an easy fence to jump at all!

Well you know what to do - spam every facebook group you can find with a photo of the lost beast, then drive round every pub in a 50 mile radius of the lost site.

Is he microchipped? I'd be tempted to put tags on his turnouts etc too, but it's a bit of an issue in summer if he doesn't wear a fly rug. I may be slightly paranoid though...

My youngest has a game of jumping out when the fencing allows. Like Ned he stays close when he does it as there's no way the others are going with him and he wouldn't leave them, but the fear of it doesn't half terrify me.

Once again the might of horse and hound shows through!
So glad you found him and i hope you can get something sorted that works for you both.

The look on his face though is absolute "Oh hi mum! What are you doing here? Missing you say? OMG whos missing?!!"

Gosh I totally missed this last night and I live so close I could have come out looking had I known. Can't believe he travelled so far! That's a busy road in rush hour!!

Thank god you found him and a massive cheer to all who helped.

I didn't realise he was yours..shared him on fb last night and so pleased when rita at avanti stud announced he was found.

I had friends on fb who have nothing to do with HHO sharing his picture last night as well. Glad he's home, he must have a good jump on him!

But what I mean is why has the yard you have moved to turned out to be unsuitable? Have I missed a thread? Other than the fact he has escaped I mean or is it his escape that means you need to move? Are the boundaries not secure?

I think he is obviously telling you he wants to stay at the old yard. You should listen to him.

It's obvious to me too and I normally would, but I just can't stay there anymore. I didn't say much about it on here, but he had an accident with barbed wire there and it was really the last straw. I had been pushing for months to get that barbed wire taken out and I even bought tape and clips to replace it. There's no structure, I pay far too much for nothing and we both get blamed for everything that happens, even when I know Ned didn't do it. His needs are not met and I pay for things I don't get. (Hay, straw, stable)
I paid £40 a week for grass livery, with poor and dangerous fencing.
I was made to feel bad at every opportunity and I was guilt tripped into taking rides out, when I wasn't paid and I didn't want to. I was told to get a wheelbarrow FULL of poo each and every day, even though others didn't and even when I'd hurt my wrist so much I couldn't drive, I got snotty texts saying "Why have you not got a FULL barrow?"
I know how much Ned does and it's not a full barrow, it's half a day. The bitching is also horrendous!

In short - Horse ownership at that yard feels like an expensive punishment, not a fun hobby.

I really don't know what to do. I loved the new yard, but it's clear Ned doesn't. Ned isn't really 100% happy at the old yard, it's just all he's known for 6yrs.

I'm well and truly lost!
Shame you can't keep them in the house...

I can't have him escape again, I didn't think it was possible and watching him in the field, I didn't think he would. Sure, he trotted about a bit, but he wasn't in a panic. He also knows he can do it now, too.
It's also not 24hr turnout, which is what I need really, I didn't realise this when I said I would go there, annoyingly. Though I did think he would be ok, since he could see other horses. Apparently not.

I don't feel either yards are the place for us now. :(

Dear Ned

Next time just raid the yard for snacks, destruction, and waking up the neighbours like we did last night. We got into the club house and ate coffee and chocolate. We were found snoozing in the barn....with the hay ;)

Mum will appreciate that a lot more than taking your self for a hack ;)

Love Samba & co xXX

Blimey. Now I understand. I hope it works out at the new yard!

Gosh - just caught up with all this!

Blimey - what a horrible experience and can't believe he got so far. Well done Carefreegirl for finding him.

Bl00dy 'osses eh?

Try again.....

Nah - do I need to come back out and give you a slap with a hiviz vest ?????
Flippin well move him back and take advantage of your new YO's offer. She / he is obviously prepared to help you try and overcome his escapee tendencies, it's a no brainier :D

I have no comment to make on the old yard ;)

Oh and it could take several months for Ned to realise that the move is for the best.

Ahhh I see. I do understand, but I certainly wouldn't move 'just' because he had escaped once. Do you want 24/7 all year? You obviously didn't go to the yard that I thought you were moving to so that one might be an option? It has 24/7 but only May-Nov I think... Not sure where else to suggest in that area. I know another yard in Wootton but it is full livery...

Can he be turned out with others at the new yard?

He doesn't know what's best for him. You do. He will take time to realise that the change is for the better but until then I think it's just going to be a case of trying to stop him escaping and hoping he starts to settle down soon.

I would seriously consider going down the sedative (or at least a calmer) route for the time being, then he could be gradually weaned off it.

How is he today after his adventure?

I hope you can sort things out, you're right it's meant to be fun. If it helps find a yard I can put a wanted ad on the EGB forum for you.

So very glad he's back safe & sound.;)

So glad you found him, its such a worry with these horses!! Mine escaped last week, but only into the field next door, even though she has lived with her current herd for the better part of 10 years! I would try again, if the field isn't that big, could you try an inner fence, so its harder to jump out? I like the sound of the other yard your YO has, it could be an option!

I'm not 100% sure, but she said there will always be another horse next to him.

He was actually on sedative when he escaped :O

He's ok, a bit worn out though :P
