I need a little bit of advice.

I dont have an instructer at the moment because i cant find one that i like, my YO is an instructer but i have made the mistake of using the yard instructer before and it all gets too involved and i dont like it. So i have been trying to do everything myself.

Everything is going really well, however recently, i dont know if it is the hot weather, my horse has become very heavy in my hand. I have tried doing raised trotting poles and things and lots of transitions but i just find that he isnt coming back on my seat enough, and is falling onto his forehand.

Im a bit out of ideas really and was just after some exercises i could try out.

Annother thing, he is ridden in a loose ring french link, which im not sure he totally likes, i tried him in a loose ring straight bar and he didnt like that at all. Ive also tried him in mylers but he didnt like that either.
I need something that is quite thin to fit in his small mouth , but i cant seem to find anything that is right for him. Where could i find a nice thin bit to try?

He has a unique way of working with horses on a 50/50 basis he is used by professionals a lot for extra schooling help but they all keep him secrete as they can't be seen to be getting help. Look at his web site http://www.thinkequus.com he has a way with horses and can make it all very simple.

Michael peace is the chap who is advertising at the top (banner) on his forum! He mainly as far I know deals with problem horses, so rearing, napping and things like that. He also does alot of work with the mounted police force etc.

Yes he could help! But it's not cheap so would probably say get an instuctor as you don't have huge problems, just a little schooling issue (and who by the way doesn't.. lol)

If your finding your horse heavy on the forehand I would be looking at my own hands first.
9 times out of 10 it's us somewhere along the lines and not the horse, so would definitely try and find a good instructor or at least a buddy to watch you from the ground. Where are you, maybe someone can recommend someone close by.

Also, what about getting someone to film you then you can see yourself? Have you watched your horse on the lunge, does he do this too then?

He is lovely on the lunge, really soft and responds to my body position, voice commands and commands from the lines and the whip.

I do concentrate really hard on relaxing my arms and i do feel like my hands are soft. I just find once we get into the rythem we are fine for a little bit and then it gets heavier and heavier. I do try and then make a transition to keep him listening.

Any advice on downwards tranisitions as this is probably our main problem

When doing downwards transitions my instructor always tells me to image the transition you want to go to e.g. canter to trot - put an image of trot in your head!! It sounds really weird but i must admit my horse was alot better when i did it this way lol :D. Hope this is some help!! x

This is proberly a really silly question but what does YO stand for??? as i know things like tbh etc etc but just cant work out YO!!!

Ok i recently was having the very same problem, as i schooled my horse was in an outline and working through but slowly got heavier and heavier. I did put a post on here recently and got some really good advice, have a little search and you might find it. I also had an 'emergency'(!) lesson with my instructor to try and sort this and he said when the horse begins to lean, you literally shake him off and then give with the reins. By this he means a little side to side action with alternating reins, but it must be quick and then let it go. So when the horse starts leaning, give him a little shake to say get off my hands, then release as a reward. My horse quickly learnt this lesson but does need reminding often. This has worked really well for us tho :)

Thanks everyone! I have tried your advice last night and this morning and it was amazing! He light in my hands about 80% of the time whereas it was about 50% of the time before!
