Can anyone help me here please. I am in a mess. I have 6 horses, well 4 horses, 1 foal & 1 Shetland. I started with my own mare 9 years ago when she was a foal. Then I took on another one because of the way the owner treated her, they were nasty to her & she was stabled day & night. A few years later the same thing happened. A beautiful horse came on to the yard & was treated horrible. She kicked & reared though fear & was unsafe to be around. They sold her & then the new owners returned her. The treatment was not good on the horse. In the end I took her on & had a trainer out to her. To cut a long story short, I took on the rest of the horses to stop them being ill treated. Now I am going through divorce & losing my home in the next few months & to make matters worse, my job is going also.
The oldest horse suffers with arthritis & needs to be in a stable at night when it is freezing or snowing. One suffers with laminitis, the rest are well.

I am struggling now with cost, the farrier, wormer's, rent & injections. I have been caring for them for the last 9 years now. The last two came to me last year.

I cannot have them PTS & I know everyone is suffering with bills & out going payments each week/month. But I am now at my wits end. I am so scared what will happen to them. There is only one that is broken for riding, the rest are not. So really a lot of people will not be interested in wanting them. They are all so used to being with each other & turned out 24/7.

Does anyone know of any places anywhere that take on horses without parting them all up. They have been together for so long. Or at least keeping them in pairs.
I know a lot will say that it is impossible to rehome all the horses together & I know that in my heart, but if anyone as any ideas at all that can help, that would be great.

My head is in a bit of a mess just now & I am scared for the horses. They are in a good field at the moment, but it is the up keep of them I am finding it hard to do.

I have been told how daft I am for taking on so many horses over the time, but I was in a good marriage & a good job. I have been able to do this for the last 9 years, but now everything is falling down around me.

Please don't say to have them PTS, or I want is any advice that can help them. There might be no where for them to go, I am just trying to see if there is anywhere at all.
Many thanks in advance.

Thank you so much, I should of thought of that. I will look around now to see how to go about that now.
It is the most heartbreaking thing I have ever had to do in my life. All I want is for them to be happy.

I think the only thing you can do is contact any local welfare societies to see if they can help. Or hunt around for any places that do cheap grass liveries.

Other than that I can't really think of anything else that would help your situation - with the economic climate the way it is, you are going to struggle to find somewhere that can take one or two, let alone the whole lot.

Wishing you all the best hun x

My heart goes out to you (((((((hugs)))))))).

I would contact the horse charities, as someone may well be looking for companions, are any fit to be used by the RDA ? Hang in there, believe it or not, good things do sometimes happen to peeps who care :)

Perhaps offer them out on loan as companions? I wish you the best of luck what a horrible situation to be in x

You are going to have to be very careful if you go down this route - there are countless horror stories about companion loans that have ended up at sales and abbattoirs. I know you don't want to hear this, but you have to be realistic - sound, fit, healthy, backed horses and ponies are struggling to find homes at the moment. You may be able to home the shetland and the foal, but all the others - with very little grass around?? Please be careful.

You say you dont want them to be split up.. but in reality, they will cope.
Rehoming one single horse as a companion will be far easier than rehoming 6..
Splitting up your horses, IMO really isn't the end of the word if it means one, two or all of them can go on to live useful, enjoyable lives.
Would you really never consider this an option?

Advertise in Farmers Guardian, preloved etc for land to rent. Not sure what your area is like but you can get a 10 acre field around here for under £1000 a year which with good management will keep 6 horses. The one that needs stabling either turn it out and see (with good supplements) or offer as companion (which is unlikely if she's high maintance).

Doubt you'll find a charity that will take them, certainly not one that will take them all together. Depends on ages, temperment etc. Only other option is local auction and let fate decide?

Loan or companions. Doubt highly they will stay together though and its fairly unrealistic to want to home them like that as not many people are in the situation where they could cope with taking on that responsibility.

Could you sell the ridden one and use the funds to help with your others in the short term?

awww hun i really feel for you!, its hard at the minute with everything going up all the time and you must be going through the mill at the minute, could you not rent a field and just rest them till you can sell them? as people have said preloved is a good site as is H&H, maybe take the strain off the current rent your paying for them all x

Agreed. Could you sell the ridden horse, and the foal? (Is the foal well bred, what is it?) The shetland will be easy to find a companion home for - What are the others? ..are they hardy native types? good doers? if so, companion homes might be easy enough to find for these also.. but I really doubt you'll ever find anyone to take them ALL. Its unrealistic.

..the old arthritic lad, well... all I'm going to say on that one is.. dont allow him to face an uncertain future. He's high maintenance and if you dont find someone willing to take on him and the expence etc that comes with him, do right by him?

Sorry to hear you're in this situation, it must be tough, but you have to be practical.

Depending on where you are in the country there are some more local charities that may be able to help. For example, Bransby do some great work near Lincoln.

^ this. i was just going to ask, where abouts are you? at least then any HHOers can get an idea and some may hear of something?

Can you put up some more details on each one. Maybe some pictures? Need age, breed, colour, height, sex, temperament etc.

just to add to the good wishes - not just with your horses but just what an awful time to be going through. Please remember though, that BAD times come to an end as well and there will be a time when you can look back on this as a nasty place well behind you.

Just keep an eye on yourself as well. Don't ignore signs of you needing help for yourself and don't think you shouldn't reach out. If you are crying at odd times, if you are having problems sleeping, if you feel it is all getting on top of you - go to see a docter, these are classic and COMMON signs of depression when it all gets too much and you CAN be helped to get through it - there is no need to suffer it alone. If you are having problems sleeping, don't be a martyr to it, get some sleeping pills and get your sleep patterns back to normal. Honestly, its amazing how quickly we as humans disintegrate when we don't get enough sleep.

Back to your horses - keep this being posted/bumped up, look to selling your riding horse and pony and if you do go down the loan route, do take out references from the vet and yard owner - independant third parties. You have started early enough in the summer to give you a fighting chance so I hope you have success.

Regardless of the outcome - you have taken on and cared for 9 horses of which it sounds like no one wanted 7 of them. keep that in mind and GOOD LUCK.

Just wanted to send you

[[[[[[ HUGS ]]]]]]]

A really horrid time for you. I know just how I felt when I thought this was going to happen to me. I felt desperate. My heart genuinely goes out to you.

Like others have said, mention whereabouts you are. Then people close to you can PM you if they can help.

Best of luck.
X

ive tried PMing too. its so frustrating when someone posts something like this, asking for help and then disappears!

Awww cut her some slack! She's going through to tough time. Probably got 101 other things to worry her ATM, as well. I'm sure she'll post back later when she feels up to it.

OP - If you can reply with breed, age, temprement of each horse, and where abouts you are.. someone on here might be able to help you out?

I gather from previous posts, she's probably based near Nottingham. She was posting asking for transport in that area.

You would just expect that, if it were me anyway, that you would stick around and give as much information as humanly possible, especially if someone PM's you straight away saying they may be able to rehome at least one for you?

i dont want to sound crabby at all but if she want s any sucess she needs to give info, ive got a lesson later and could leave info with the yard but not if she doesnt provide some kind of clues.

Yeah, I do get what you mean. Especially as I've checked as she's still logged onto the site. But still, I was a big mess when the same happened to me so I'm empathising! Imagining all sorts.

Still, strange to post and then leave. I agree. I'd be waiting with baited breath for replies if it were me.

me too. Its just i am looking for a companion pony and i overheard a lady saying the other day that shes looking for a companion horse.

Meh, just hope she gets in touch. I feel sorry for her but the post is about rehoming her horses and theres people who are trying to help.

I am doubtful that this person even exists, or her horses. Why do people do this?

Why do people always have to jump to the 'troll' conclusion at the drop of a hat. I doubt the OP joined in 2009 and left 100 reasonable posts just to make this one thread up!

If you think its a troll wasting your time dont respond - or you could actually be assisting in making her feel worse.

Anyway, OP I hope you are okay. Keep us updated as and when you feel you can ((((((((hugs)))))))))

Thank you all for replying from the bottom of my heart.
To the few that cannot help but be negative...... I have been out & not getting into late. I have been to farms around me & land agencies. I have travelled quite a few miles these last few days & night. On top of that I am having to find a home to live in as I have to leave my house in the next few weeks, plus go to see to the horses. Then I have work.
I am sorry if you think this is some kind of joke!! or I'm not a real person lol but believe me, this is NO joke & I am real. Just going through a tough time. Also have a sick dog with colitis that was at the vets yesterday & a rabbit with snuffles.

I printed off a hundred letters & went to all the farms with the details of my horses & my home phone number & I got a call from a farmer today for a 5 acre field :) He also sells big bales of hay in the winter & lives half a miles away from the field & will put into the field for me when I need it. The rent is amazing. He is charging less then half I'm paying now, which is a God send. I could cry with happiness. I do need to get a mobile field shelter & know they can cost a lot.

I am based in Nottingham. I have had a couple of PM for the pony, but she did have laminitis last year. I asked for advice on here for her. She is great now & her X rays show that. She is 4 an half & had her teeth filed & she as been chipped. She as come on so much in the last year & loves you being with her.

I am going to look at the field tomorrow. I have also been & found a lady with an horse box to move them for me & she is charging me £60 to move ALL the horses. All I have to do is let her know when I need her. She even said they will help load them for me.
This afternoon I had someone interested in the foal but will not know until weekend.

My head is still hurting but had a wonderful PM of someone here who went through the same as me & reading the message gave me so much hope.

Thank you ALL so very much. It looks like things will be getting better. I will let you know what happens with the pony & the foal. If they do go then I will be ale to keep the others.

Thank you all xxxxx
