Yes, absolutely they do. Because you can research and think and process stuff through a totally different lens, one where things finally make sense and you are not just stupid, careless, antisocial, whatever.Do ‘labels’ make life better?
And definitely watch the wonderful film about her life, "Temple Grandin." There are horses in it tooSome autistic people think in pictures, as do some neurotypical people… if you’re interested in this concept, read “visual thinking” by Temple Grandin it’s a great book. And if you’re interested in the subject and don’t know of her, google the author too.
I'm recently diagnosed combined ADHD (in my mid 60s). I also have face blindness, and an element of dyscalculia and a tendency to reverse the order of digits and increasingly as I get older, letters. I had a horrible time at school and a messy life. The one constant throughout has been my love for animals, all animals really, but domestic animals that I was in contact with particularly. I was a very active outdoor kid but I could spend hours in an almost meditative state in the company of animals, sometimes just watching or being with them, not even interacting. I loved horses from an early age and was obsessed by the time I was 8 or 9.
I love spending time with my horses, but these days it does seem an endless slog and I find myself questioning if it's worth it, sometimes.
