does anyone else's horse do this? mine must do about 5 poops on an hour's hack! i'm sure its just excitement with him as generally he's very confident. and he always has to do it on the road when there's a car behind and he refuses to move while pooping!! very embarassing!!!

We have one who wees a lot during work. He's very polite though an asks to be driven onto the grass but he'll go 2-3 times during an afternoons work. He only poos once though but they can all walk and poo and have never been allowed to stop just to.

Yep, my mare poops for Britain when out hacking. Always has done. In fact, I would worry that something was wrong with her if she didn't. The first 2 or 3 are usually huge, and referred to as 'elephant poos' by my hacking buddies. They get progressively smaller and splattier!

My son's little section A does it all the time in the school - it's evasion for him! When he's done a bit of work he stops for a rest and a poo or sometimes he stops and just pretends he's going to go! Amazing how much can come from one little pony. I do tell my son that his pony can poo and walk at the same time, but I'm only a mother, so what do I know?!

FB usually does it after some exertion out hacking - like a 2km climb up a steepish hill track - he gets to the top, heaves a sigh of relief and promptly drops a huge pile of poo! He prefers to wait then until he gets home and then poo all over the yard or in the shower - like peeing on a clean bed I suppose.

Mine wees a lot out hacking, in certain spots without fail. It's like some places he knows he canters, some places he knows he wees. Luckily, the two never coincide!
He also wees whenever he sees another horse wee. It makes group lessons a bit taxing! I don't know where he gets enough water from to produce that much wee!

Mine does whenever he goes anywhere new he has to poo and wee - but he is an ex stallion so I think he is just marking his territory!

Ours does, during any kind of work not just hacking. He doesn't like to poo in his stable ,if he has to he always goes in the same place.

My mare does too!

More out on hacks, but also in the school. But on hacks it's a running joke with people we hack out with! Think it's out of excitement and again she starts out normal sized and ends up splatty!

I am the exception to the rule...

my mare never goes to the toilet either number 1,or 2 when I am riding her , NEVER!!

sometimes I have been on 3 hour hacks and still she will hold it til we get back to the yard.....

My cob's record is 7 poops on a 2 hour hack! Out hunting he pees for England. He is also a typical man out hacking he if wants a pee, he just gets it out and has a slash, no matter where he is - even on the stable yard. Mind, you he is the equine equivalent of Phil Mitchell - hogged (shaven), burly, huge attitude and loves his mummy more than anything else!

Yep, his lordship is known for "lots" of pooing when out, if we get lost we just follow the poo home, bit of a joke with my friends, we think he has hollow legs full of ready poo's to drop out at embarrasing moments, he will have one wee at least and normally in the same place depending on which route, I think some of it is a marking scent thing, 5 of us went to Blidworth yesterday and they all had a wee at the same time, very amusing.

My horse rarely poos on hacks, if so only once, but when I took him hunting I have never seen so much poo! In the trailer, outside the trailer, at the meet and countless times on the way round. I don't think he had any left by the end of the day!

My daughter's pony is clever. When you bring out his tack he disappears to the back of his stable and has a poo and a wee and then reappears at the front again to have his tack put on. It's as if he says 'Oh right, work? Just a sec while I get ready..'

At first we thought he didn't want to work and I would follow him into the stable and start to tack him up, but one day I got delayed chatting after I had put his tack over the stable door and it was then we realised what he was doing. So now we give him a couple of minutes to get organised before we tack him up.

Lancelot is trying to build his on poop mountains in surrey, every time ,in the same place, and at18 hands ,he can seriously add to the geography.

Mine poos like crazy out, it's excitement. When we go anywhere he begins when the travel boots come out and on a fun ride once we lost count at 17 dumps. Always means the lorry's nice and clean on the way home though!!

Hehe strange thread! Saf is almost guaranteed to poo once on a hack, on a particularly long hack she may go twice. None of my (all mares) have ever had a wee whilst out, far too unladylike! On the other hand Misty will never go to the toilet on a hack, preferring to wait until we get back to the field. She surprised us the other day when she had a poo whilst out - must have been absolutely desperate!

Why are we even talking about this, a non-horsey person will think us all mad!
