Never underestimate a Manchester Terrier

My house was broken into yesterday. The only dogs in the house were my Mannie bitch, Lucy, a rescue Springer who would lick you to death and my puppy with the broken paw. Lucy has 3 broken ribs, the a**holes who broke in had armed themselves with a large axe but ended up barricaded upstairs behind a stair gate getting away from 8kg of angry terrier in a hot pink equafleece. The blood says she bit them several times. Forensics were very greatful for her help in linking the suspects to the scene of crime. They got away with my Springer puppy (recovered within an hour) some cash and jewellery. Suspects have been identified via cctv and forensics.

She's probably lucky not to be dead but I don't think I've ever been so grateful for a dog lovingly known at home as the spawn of satan. The police credited her for saving all my dogs kennelled in the house downstairs! Puppy was in a crate in the hallway so they appeared to grab her on the way out.

Never under estimate a terrier.

Dear god. How utterly terrifying.

So glad you got your puppy back. Was she dumped when they realised she had an injury?

You must be proud as punch with Lucy. What a fabulous girl.

God that's awful, everyone's worst fear I would think. What a gutsy little terrier and I would guess that poor Lucy tried to help too, hence the injuries. And to take your pup, the b**rstew*rds!!! I hope all three of them recover fully and very quickly and you too, I would imagine you must also be feeling a tad shell shocked to say the least.

Just saw this on MTA FB group, utterly terrifying! I always thought F would do this if I had intruders.... he slept through it though, BOTH times. Tbf they didn't actually enter the property, were just trying to break in, perhaps he'd have emerged from his blanket if they had entered. Maybe. He was great at seeing the police off, when they arrived afterwards 😩
SO glad Lucy hasn't suffered any more serious injuries than the ribs, I mean that's bad enough but... could have been a lot worse. Brave little soul she is! And what a relief to get your puppy back. Hope you're ok, you must be feeling rather shaken up by it all.

Some people are b*st*rds.
Great that situation didn't escalate to any worse, and then resolved quickly. Hope ribs heal well for brave Lucy.

How horrifically scary at what might have been - but well done Lucy you hero!!! I hope the blood originates from the intruders nether regions 😜

It would probably take a brave person to break into mine with Loki there. I’m reasonably sure he wouldn’t bite, but you never know I suppose. He does look mighty scarey though when he dives out of the cat flap at high speed barking with raised hackles if anyone comes to the back gate! Postie and delivery guys don’t risk him that’s for sure!

What a horrid thing to happen @druid, I hope that Lucy makes a quick recovery and that none of them are too upset by what happened. Well done to the feisty terrier, it sounds like the barstewards wouldn't have known what had hit them! I am so pleased that your puppy was quickly recovered and that the police have identified the nasty pieces of work responsible. I hope that you are ok; I have been burgled and it's not nice knowing that someone has broken into your personal space, but the uneasy feeling does fade.

How awful Druid, so sorry to hear about your break in! I had to google Manchester Terrier, I've never come across one myself. Lucy is such a brave dog, it could have been much worse if she hadn't intervened. Very glad you got your puppy back too.

I hope Lucy's broken ribs heal very quickly. I bet she didn't back off even when they injured her.
What a dog.

What a brave girl, how terrifying and also amazing. Manchester terriers look like such fragile l little things, too.

A local farmer shot two burglars in his isolated farm the other night, second time in a row they were there. I am hoping against hope that he isn't prosecuted, but he has been arrested for murder and attempted murder. Two teenage scroats from a local village.

Sending vibes for a quick recovery for Lucy and a return of peace of mind for you.

Whaley Bridge if you want to Google it. Yes everyone who knows about isolated farms is on his side. I used to live a few miles away from there in one and I've never been more grateful that we moved out. There was a police warning about a month ago about daytime burglars entering properties in the area while people were home, In hope this was that pair.

I hope Lucy is OK today.

I see today that the farmer has been bailed, so at least he has been released, rather than remanded.
