The plan was to breed from my mare to try and get something a little bigger (she's 14.2hh) to event, so putting her in foal this year. However she's started cribbing more frequently and though it doesn't bother me I'd prefer the next foal not to do it also. Plus we weren't guaranteed a bigger foal, things could go wrong and she's been going so well recently we then decided maybe it would be more sensible to buy a youngster instead...

Mum saw a yearling for sale, but phoned up and found out he'd been sold. As luck would have it, his full brother had been born a day earlier...

After a bit of umming and ahhing as we were buying unseen we bit the bullet, and this wee guy is coming to join us in September/October time!

He's been named Baxter - we don't know whether to change it to Dexter, keep it or call him Gulliver (which is one of the names we had for Ruby's foal if she'd had one) so opinions would be appreciated!

So excited :p:D

Congratulations on the purchase of your new addition, really nice looking boy

Not sure whether i'd change his name, the ones you have suggested are nice but i think i'm with Bobbly i wouldn't be able to stop myself from calling him Soup instead of Baxter lol

What a lovely little man! I think no matter what you name him you'll come up with a nickname for him anyway :)

Thank you for all the compliments!!

He is by Ninth House - a TB stallion owned by the owners of Kings Composer and standing at the same stud. He's a TB by Chester House and Ninette. Rated highly by the stud so they have high hopes for him!

Pinot Noir is his dam - Ricardo Z x Darcos Lady.

His full brother was purchased by an agent for a event horse owner who has a horse under WFP!

I'm already calling him 'Gully' and he's not even mine :eek3:

See I think he looks like a Gully - and shouting 'GULLYGULLYGULLY' is what we used to do as kids standing on a headland in Cornwall and feeding the birds bread so it all seems to tie in.

Think I might wait and see what he's like before making a decision - he might suit being a Baxter!
