Meet my new rising 2 App x NF gelding! Lovely friendly and calm boy, on way home we managed to break down on a motorway and had to wait for the RAC on the hard shoulder! Luckily he was so calm and was resting in the trailer eating hay and now settled at home very quickly.
Turned out the trailer brakes was left on when driving there and back! Grease had burned (causing the smoke we saw!) but had a nice RAC man who followed us all the way home (good 30 mins) to make sure we got back and now trailer is getting fixed, hopefully ready for my TREC show this weekend with my other pony!

Anyway: I was wondering what people thought of his colour? I expect he is going to roan out a lot as getting whiter all the time, but read somewhere the spots stay?
Also will his mane and tail change colour? Nice silver colour at the moment!

Thanks :)

(Hope that works!)

Absolutely no idea about the colour, as I'm useless with that kinda thing! BUT he is stunning! Super cute!

He's a roan blanket spot. You should register him with the part bred register of the Appaloosa parent's breed society which is probably either BAPS or APHA UK. Nice spotty.

Will look into it! He has a part bred New forest pony passport so be looking more into that side at the moment.

looks like he has the varnish gene ;)

vardi on here had some fab pics of her lad varnishing out. not sure whether his spots stayed or not!

Varnish rarely affects spots. Sometimes they 'mould out'/fade slightly, but essentially they will stay. :) You may also find other spots 'hiding' amongst the colour as he varnishes.

Oops, that sounded like an off-ish reply to what was wrote above. It wasn't, I swear. I hadn't read your post at the time. ;)

Will look up varnish! Any thoughts on colour of mane and tail?

Name is vicarshill jako, dame is vicarshill something!(passport in car can't remember at the moment!) and sire Willoway Harry potter.

15hh - looks like he should make the height around 14hh at the moment, perfect for myself and my mum who will both ride him as already have a 14.3hh :)

vardi's owner isn't called vardi but I found some pics, hopefully this link will work

he appears to have kept the spots ;)

Look up the Leopard Pattern Complex. As stated by others, he looks like he will continue to get more white hairs (and this might uncover more spots too as they will stay dark) as he looks to be a Varnish roan.

He looks very like my old chap, very very similar colouring and blanket. I can't work out how to post pictures so can't show you.

I've never heard of a varnish gene and don't know much about appy colours which I believe are quite complicated.

But I can tell you about my chap - I had him 30 years :)
He hardly changed at all. He did eventually become more roan at the front, but only when he was well into his 20s. He looked more roan during the winter if unclipped. His mane and tail changed most - varying from fairly sparse and mainly white to very thick and black, throughout his life. It was more of a mixture in his final years. The white hair of his blanket had a fluffier texture than his brown spots and was more dense, so you could feel the spots as you ran a hand over him.

He looks gorgeous - lucky you.

The genes involved in appaloosa/knabstrupper/other spotty breeds are called the Leopard Pattern Complex. Fewspots and snowcaps are homozygous for LP, where as Varnish roans, Blanket spots and leopard spots are heterozygous for LP.

This is why fewspots are desirable for breeding as all of their foals will inherit LP.
