I bought a new Racesafe yesterday. i wear it for hacking and zip had gone on existing one plus was getting to end of/if not reached the advised age period. I had a standard short before but now have standard medium which is the same length.

All I see is people potentially cutting the 2018 tag off a cheap BP and sewing it into a more expensive 2009 one. I certainly am very unhappy that Im expected to fork out £250 to replace my current (old tag) RC Provent which looks IDENTICAL to the 2018 version and has been used literally 5 times so is pristine. Do you know what I find really odd - my provent has the old tag, yet on the label theres a handwritten bit filled in and it says 2018 it was made. So... why wasnt it tagged 2018...

I would contact Racesafe and see if it was possible to get it re-labelled. You have nothing to lose by ringing and asking

Probably because to get the 2018 standard it needs to meet the 2018 requirements, and it may well have been made with materials and design that met the 2009 one but not 2018. There's always going to be a cut off point sadly.

You can download the spec and differences between the two on the BETA website, which includes relabelling.

I understand it’s more that a 2009 one made in 2018 is now 6 years old and the materials degrade so the impact protection reduces after 3-5 years.

My lovely Racesafe is probably about 15 years old so replacing it, even though I have no plans to do XC. At least at that age I feel I’ve had my monies worth, I tend to wear it all the time when riding.

Treehouse have a big sale at 6 Ways Stadium in Worcester this weekend so hoping to pick up a “bargain”.

Not sure if I should be looking at an air vest instead though, I have a rheumatoid arthritis so hitting a joint tends to result in it swelling for months, my neck is always a worry.
