Anyone else in the same situation?
My beautiful mare is off (and has been for about the last month) for an unknown amount of time as she has a horrid sarcoid on her head - so no bridle or even headcollar I hate not being able to ride her and I especially hate that it is painful for her. My tiny bit of patience has totally run out, and no end currently in sight!!

YES!! i will join! my gelding has been off for 2 months with lameness and lots of vet visits!! thank god iv just started riding my new one so get my riding dose but it just isnt the same as riding my boy!

Know what you mean, I could ride oh mare, but I only want to ride my girl!! (que stoppy stomp and wobbly bottom lip!). Hope your boy is on the mend sonn.

I'm in! I had my beloved gelding fit and ready for our first BE of the season (in May) only for him to go sore on the Saturday before the event on the Monday BUM!!!. Blacksmith thinks its deep bruising in the foot so just got to wait... But season is slipping by and before we know it - will be winter again! I know that sounds pessimistic but its mid July now... even if he is ok to start walking in August we won't be eventing fit for ages and the season stops ten weeks later : ( Here's looking forward to 2011 then!

Know how you feel, one second you are planning exciting things while the rain holds off over the summer, the next you are wondering how to keep your enthusiasm over the winter with another summer of no competing behind you! Hope the bruising improves soon, guessing the rain should help a bit to soften the ground?

i had soo much planned for prince this year, he was going to do R2R at bath and west and search for a star hoys qualifier R2R and lots on novice BD's :( but he went lame in april :( and is still lame :( hopefully his added problems will clear and we can get on with nerve blocks and bone scans :) but i wont be able to see him in horsepital when he has bone scans as hel be radioactive :( weve never been apart! hes starting to look old and tired bless him, hes 12! i did take him out for a walk this morn though which perked him up!! £600 vet bill and rising!

Yes, me!. My gelding off due to arthritis and suspensory ligament damage. Have resorted to running, cycling and going on trampoline to burn off energy! Seen 9 prospective horses, most absolute rubbish. Hugs to all who cannot ride their beloved steeds.

ouch, hope everyone has insurance, sounding expensive!
Wow hessy12, you sound impressively dedicated! Not doing so well at getting my fat ar*e moving! Also tempted to look at another horse, but there just aren't any as lovely as my girl, and I can't be doing with all the lying ads!

It's funny you say that... I checked on him last night and he trotted over to the gate and he didn't look as lame... but part of me just wants to think its a fluke because I don't want to get my hopes up.

We really struggle without a school. You can't ride in the field in the winter because it is so wet, then before you know it its like concrete! I'll enter the lottery on Sat and see if I can build one in the garden! yeah right : )

god bless NFU!!
i wouldnt have got another one but my YO just happened to hear about grace and told me. i believe in fait and what will be will be so and i really liked her when i saw her even though she has been out of work for 7 months she was very local at only 1 mile from my house and 3 miles from the yard and we knew the owner so got her at a bargain of £500!! iv just posted a thread with photos of our first hack! im dying to get on mine though and go for a blast on the beach though!

oh, I've just read your thread (not good at names!), such a pretty girl, and a bargain too, wow! That must be fate, so close to you too!
Destiny95, fab he isn't looking so lame. Even if he still needs time off, it would be nice to think he is more comfortable. The ground is a propper pig, by my old yard it was bottomless or concrete! Good luck with the lottery!! Massive school and an oakley for comps?!

Yep! Bella's off with back problems caused by the stupid wintec  :( She should be ok and ride-able soon, but it may take longer because that thing is not going near her again, so hopefully getting a new one for her, needless to say it won't be a wintec!

Room for one more?

Big soft hugs for all here (((:))))

Mine got a nasty kick above the knee on Tues so he's off until it's better. Can't stitch, was already infected when I found him.

Bandaging it is such a PAIN! It won't stay up even with gaffer tape. My nice pharmacist gave me plaster roll though with super-sticky stuff so hopefully will stay put. Can't think of anything apart from breeches...

i feel for you!! i have been bandaging for the last 2 weeks now!! both of mine decided to kick eachother, grace took a chunk out of her leg that was to high up to bandage and luckily healed with out stitches and prince burst 4 yr old scar tissue open on his hind leg that hasnt healed very easily! they have both had stable bandages on. grace is now fine but prince is still being bandaged! vet said on wednesday to leave the bandage off and let air get to it to help dry it out but if swelling comes back then bandage again, well the next morning he had a big leg again so bandaging again :( luckily i keep the reciept for the vet wrap and it goes to nfu.

Yes me please!!!
Kelly's had on going lameness for which we could not find a cause or a cure, 5 months later lami, seizures and rotation in both front feet :(
She's coming sound very very very slowly...but I doubt we'll be back on her before we hit the 6 month mark!
Riding friend's mare and YO's mare, but just not the same!! :(

Can I join?

I haven't even sat on Emerald since April last year when she injured her stifle so put her in foal instead - might get to bring her back into work in November this year.
The other horse I acquired has needed some farily lengthy R+R too so I have only pootled around on him although I think we can step his workload up now and Onyx is ready for stage 1 of the breaking stages

Bit like buses, first there were none, next there will be 3 to do!

Mine has thrown a splint - and only had him 6 weeks. Already had 10 days box rest and doesnt seem sore on it any longer. Am considering turning him out this weekend as he's really not doing box rest well. Oh and then the vet said she thought he might have bone spavins - just to add to my woes. But we'll deal with one thing at a time! So no riding for me either. And we hoped to have a fun summer with him but alas not to be.

I'll join.

I haven't ridden since the 27th March as a few days later my mare was diagnosed with laminitis :(

Can you squeeze me in ? Just the boy's growing, so he's having a few months off, and it's PAINFUL !! But that said, I do have more time for messing about on the yard, and I do love a bit of sweeping every now and then..

Crikey, didn't think there would be so many! Hope all neds (is that a shootable offence now?!) are well soon! Finding it really frustrating as I've only had my girl a year, she was super green when I got her and we were AT LAST getting some where! Ho hum, just must wait! Am making her a new bridle at the mo so at least she'll be even prettier when we get going again. On the plus side, because we have no grass, at least she isn't getting to be too much of a fatty (ah hem, which is more than I can say for myself!)!

Room for one more....

He had a abscess that took 7 week's to come out. He is now suffering with strained leg's due to compaster sp? with only 3 legs for that long!! Twice a day cold hoseing them and slapping on Anica and Witch hazeing gel. I've already gone though 3 tub's of it now!!

O before that we had saddle problem's which caused his back to go sore so no riding for a while. I think Ive had about two week's worth of riding since April!!!

Who's say's summer is suppose be cheap!!!!

Can I join... my fella's been off for 4 weeks now. This started when he had a 'do' with his hocks he's an old guy and has arthritis and usually this is a few day thing... has some danilon and rest and he's back to the job... then he had a bit of a do with the farrier... decided that whilst his foot was being rasped on the tripod thing he'd spook (at I know not what) and pull his foot off the tripod and take half the bulb of his heel with it... several vet wraps later he's lame on a front... That was just getting better when the entire of his hind quarter swelled to about 3 times normal... out came the vet and he's now on antibiotics for his cellulitis... One wonders if I should just leave him in happy retirement but then again, he loves to work...

Anyway do I qualify????

Blitz

I'd say you qualify... welcome and a big hug.

Can I just say: glosgirl - have tubigripped it, a tad on the tight side but maybe not a bad thing, will be bringing him in again at 6am so will report if it worked...

Another one here! Horse has been off work more or less since April and has now been diagnosed with arthritis in both hocks and suspensory damage, plus problems with sacroiliac :( Waiting to go back to Rossdales on the 2nd to do a bone scan and then work out a course of treatment whilst the vet bills and the bills for hiring boxes to get her there and back rapidly stack up :( Boooo! *Stamps feet and pouts* I just want to ride MY horse! :( :(

Is there room for another?
My mare bucked me off and I landed on my head on the road at the beginning of Feb. The vet diagnosed muscle problems in her back and performed some expensive but fortunately successful acupuncture. She was declared fit to start work just before Spring Bank holiday. Then I had to wait for the saddler. Saddler came out and reflocked, we started walking her (mare, not saddler, lol!) out in-hand with the saddle on. The I fainted at work and taken to A&E, where a trapped nerve in my spine was diagnosed. I have been unable to ride since, and goodness knows when I will be fir enough again at the rate things are going! Sister rode the mare for me once but then the silly creature came in looking as though she'd had a fight with a barbed wire fence - we haven't any - so she's been off work again!
