New Forest ponies/the Beaulieu sales

I’d be happy to have lot 15 in my field, really like the look of him (and I’m usually a mare person!)
I know i could google it, but it’s easier to ask here… what’s the difference between all the different sections?

At the sales normally Section 1 generally is for youngstock, Section 2 for older registered ponies. As there aren't many older ones I assume they have just merged the registered ponies into one.

Fidleywood Falconer is only a young stallion who first ran out in 2018. Just 50 progeny at present, so oldest stock by him is 2. He ran near my area.

Anyone wanting information please do contact the seller. Or I am happy to have chat about these fab ponies. ?

Just in case those of you who like lot 27 haven't noticed, he is advertised as 14.3hh. Peregrine Falcon, please correct me, but isn't this over height for a NF?

Yes, there are a few ponies listed with incorrect heights too, but 14.2-148cm is max height.

Unfortunately over-height ponies have to go on the x-register and wouldn't be able to be shown in registered M&M classes.

I wonder if that is a typo as he was advertised as 14.1 with shoes on on horsequest. Being overheight will have an impact on the value.

I wonder if the typo meant to be 13.3 instead of 14.3.

Mine who is 14.1 in shoes is 13.3 without.

If it is a typo they need to try and get it corrected as being overheight would impact on the price they get at auction.

For those interested in lot 27, I have seen elsewhere that seller has confirmed he is 14.1hh.

Hi, could I ask for your advice? What’s the pros and cons of a youngster of the forest against a stud born?

I’m interested in 14hh pure bred, easy going, good nature, bold and suitable for show m and m classes. If you could point me in the right direction.

Bonus would be blue or bay roan.

Have messaged you, however....

Generally foals born on the forest, depending where they have run, will already be desensitised to traffic, dogs people etc (and the delightful crab flies). If buying from the sales some may not have had as much handling as others, if any. Stud bred ones may have had more handling if they have been shown. Good trainable tempered ponies will soon learn in the right hands though. As long as you have the correct set up for a semi-feral pony I wouldn't worry too much if buying direct from the sale. I believe the plan is to run the foal show at the November sale so you'll get a more handled one if purchasing one of these.

Not many blue roans out there but I'd love one!! There are a few bay roans particularly from one stallion line.

Please feel free to message direct for more information or assistance.

My mare was sold off the forest age 6 as halter broken only, she’s 22 now but has been utterly wonderful, although she’s more of a natural follower, when faced with something scary she will lead a pack of terrified horses past it!

I would go Forest bred over stud bred any day.
