New Man riding into town!

Am I the only one who thinks someone calling himself "Cornishtiger" and starting a thread with the above title must surely have had an idea of the possible effect he might have on the HHO "ladies"?

I don't believe you're quite as innocent as you claim OP. ;)

If you wish to improve your own fitness then put your address on here and a picture alongside it, in no time you will have a flock of women chasing you :D

Hi CornishTiger,

I'm an endurance rider based in Devon, so it's quite possible our paths may cross at some point. I am more than happy to give you some help if needed. I would suggest as your first two stopping points,

www.endurancegbsouthwest.com

There's a wealth of information available on there.

I'd definitely suggest getting to GHS in May if you can. I only moved here from Kent last summer, so this year will be my first GHS and I am SO FRICKIN EXCITED!!!! It, along with the Red Dragon, is one the UKs definitive endurance rides. I can't wait to take part.

As I said, feel free to ask away if you have questions about training, kit, rides, etc.

Gemma

Oh, and before anyone wonders, I would extend the same offer of help to anyone interested in startigng endurance: male, female or undecided :D:D

Us endurance folk are a friendly lot who are passionate about our unique sport. It can sometimes be quite daunting to get into as its deemed to be quite 'niche' and there are a lot of misconceptions (no, you don't need an arab. No, you don't have to use plastic, brightly coloured tack. No, you don't have to wear skin tight lycra riding tights. No, you don't spend all your time at a flat out gallop!!!) so the opportunity to dispel those myths and introduce someone to a very addictive sport is welcomed!

And I found it very interesting that someone said that alot of endurance riders are maybe a bit informed about fitness, feed regimes and physiology. That's certainly been my experience!!

Endurance riding is something that really appeals to me but I have a heavy weight Welsh Sect D so I assume it is out for me? I to have always thought of Arabs or Arabx as the only viable option for endurance.

Celt - one of my closest friends competes on her MW cobs. Both have done up to 50km and would easily manage 65km. THhy may not have the speed of the arabs and need careful management in the heat but otherwise they do really well.

My PBA is part welsh sec C and she did 120km ERs and FEI 1* with some great results before retiring from longer rides.

Thanks that's really interesting to know, he is so unfit at the moment not sure he could manage 5km!! Might seem like a really silly question but where do you start? He is used for hacking only but when he is fit, which he hasn't been for over 2 years due to different problems, I would do about an 8 mile hack a few times a week.

Some years ago there was someone on a Standardbred horse that competed in Endurance riding in Sweden, ranked amongst the top five in Sweden, the other four rode Arabs.

Sorry it is a Swedish blog, but 2011 Bono the Fjord horse competed in Endurance in Sweden, photo in this link.

Here is someone that competes on an Icelandic horse

So as ArabianGem78 have said, you definitely don't have to have an Arab or Arab cross to compete in Endurance.

:)

Thank you for all the replies and offers of advice I will read through all of the links and get some daft questions together. I do of course have pictures of my horse I am trying to work out how to share them.

Thank you so much thats the kind of stuff Im after.
Whats the "what a man" fuss all about?

If you are anywhere near Redruth, I have a friend who does a lot of endurance riding and knows all there is to know about the sport, I went out with her to an event once :) I haven't spoken to her in years but I could try to track her down I'm sure she would be happy to chat to you about it, there is also the endurance tb southwest group, she is a member, you can find them on google.
