New Years-ish weekend plans :D

Stole a horse with working legs today - forgotten what it's like to ride "normal" horses. Even when the resident muntjac went boo all we did was a sideways skip and no attempt to eject rider into space.

Get to play with the normal horse all week while his mum is away. Might not give him back ☺

I had a great couple of lessons with the big lad. We did more work on his half pass, shoulder in and travers. He's really coming into his own.

I also had lessons on the little lad. I thought he didn't feel right on Christmas Eve but he felt great in the lessons. He just needs riding properly or it's like his hind legs don't belong to him. He's always been like that, but I'm just super paranoid these days! Anyway, he was really moving and we had some great medium trots. I did hands upside down riding, which felt weird but really worked.

Tomorrow my yard has the pony club show which I'm organising/judging. Should be a busy day! Hopefully it will all go well ?

I'm so sorry to hear that Nikki ?

We had pur third day out in a row today, with a jumping lesson...

Fionn went v sweetly, though he must have been a bit tired, as he wasn't his usual cheeky lunch self, and a couple of the longer strides I saw didn't come off...

Day off tomorrow while F and I hack the little ponies, and then go sales shopping...

Had a flatwork lesson disguised as a jumping lesson on Saturday (a jump and pole to keep Mr H interested and stop him getting arsey).

Yesterday went indoor jumping, just did the 65 and 75 as I’m out of practice and feeling a bit wimpy. 2 double clears to get 3rds. (We deliberately went slow to give the kids a chance....? )

Finished jumping and walked him back to my trailer and tied him up (headcollar over bridle) then turned my back on him to get something from the car, there was a commotion and Mr H snapped his string and beggared off across the car park! Spotted an open gate into a field where he could see his mates in the distance and headed off to see them. Me in hot pursuit, plodding through very wet field in my not-waterproof boots...praying he wasn’t going to have a roll in his saddle....
He got to the gateway at far side of the field which lead into the next field - fortunately it was closed with electric fence wire - mr H looked disappointed that he couldn’t join his mates and allowed me to catch him.

Glad everyone’s had a good weekend.
Am keeping my fingers crossed for you all, Northern

Still sitting ducks here, tomorrow is another catastrophic day with 37C and strong winds. Fingers crossed our luck holds and no new fires start in our immediate area. Unfortunately the current fires are flaring up and several new ones have started, but a lot of people have evacuated themselves and their livestock early. It’s great to see so many people offer transport and emergency agistment, especially in this drought.

Certainly the worst fire season I’ve ever experienced, already close to 4 million hectares have burnt in our state already. Mind boggling! In terms of riding, I’m not doing much because of the sustained smoke haze. But at the very least I have started E over poles after her back injections. Have to start somewhere!

Happy New Year all, hope you all find it well.

Thanks for your kind comments guys, I’m utterly torn up about it. He’s my everything :(

Positive of today though - they think plastic shoes will be perfect for him. Previous farrier destroyed his feet so they are compromised with shoes on. But he needs the support (a sentence I never thought I’d say tbh). Current and amazing wonderful farrier and awesome vet are working on pulling this together and then doing the cushings test on him now everything has settled.

Rooni made smile today though, 4th comp and 2 x overall wins with 68.8% and 71.89% :)

I think he’s going to be so smart!

I've never heard of that! What is it?

She calls it driving reins but I haven’t driven so I don’t know if this is how you hold the reins. It’s really interesting. It forces you to take the feel upwards and keep your elbows soft, but it feels utterly bizarre. I have a tendency to feel downwards and either lock my elbows back or straighten my arms. You can’t do that with upside down hands!

I do both of those, too! If Blue's ever sound enough to ride again, I'll have to give it a go.

I am left handed and Ali Mills from the Talland used to get me to hold my left hand like that, it lightens the hold.

fingers xd for the plastic shoes :)

Kira had a quick canter yesterday :D
and then Darcy and I went off to ride indoors again. What a total luxury this had been! Darcy thought about being a spooky idiot as the sun was reflecting off the mirrors but took my instruction to shelve that idea quite graciously. bit sad that I'll have to go back to riding at home soon :p in recognition of his good behaviour over the last few sessions I put my pedals down a hole and now I feel a bit more like a proper rider, haha!

Happy New Year from Aus...

Yesterday bushfires decimated the entire NSW coastline, including wiping out entire coastal holiday towns. There are now fires burning in the national parks adjacent to my city, though we are still safe for now :( Smoke is the worst its been now, I worry about the horses but there is little that can be done.

The only positive is that it rained for 5 minutes yesterday, enough to make patterns on the ponies. Ironically the lightning storms started more fires though. Need your floods right about now...

Northern, we are hearing your dreadful news all the time and our thoughts are with you. x I have a letter from friends in NSW on my desk right now and am so worried for them, and you all.
