Newbie Alert!

Oh and Hi Jerokee. :) I never ride in flip flops... I usually kick them off first and go barefoot in the summer. I never rode pregnant either but that was just because I would have been too lazy and whiny to hoist my fat ass up there.

I rode bareback, bare-footed and hatless in Oregon before..AND in shorts....on the beach....what an experience....

I rode until a week before my first baby was due. I was too chicken to do the western dismount, so I would swing my leg over while our yard manager held me by the waist and pulled the bump away from the saddle. I fell on him a couple of times. :D

Sorry I forgot to say HELLO!! And your boy is very, very good looking.

Welcome.

I hope your other half will be able to explain to your baby why mummy is now a vegetable because she was too selfish and stupid to wear a hat! Bloody hell...

how bloody rude:eek:
Mary King competed while pregnant, the queen rides hatless, would you say the same to them? i know one of the queens ladies in waiting, i could pass on a letter for you:rolleyes:

I dont care about riding whilst pregnant, I probably wont but that would be my decision. But I DO think risking braining yourself for, what, fashion? Stupidity? Naivety? is fecking stupid.

And I think the same about the queen riding hatless - what would happen if she brained herself?! Chaos.

Nice looking horse.

Welcome to the forum.

I would love to ride hatless, pregnant, and with feet as free as a bird, but even if I could ever be pregnant again, I've learnt the hard way that things happen when one least expects it. I'm just really glad I didn't have to explain to a baby about the damage I'd caused him/her.

Each to their own.

Hi Cedars! you are back.......!!!!!!!!!!! xxxxxxxxxxx

crikey... there has been a whole other post... well i've not seen that one *goes off to have a look!!!*

I do really apreciate all of your 'concerns for my safety, and that of my unborn child'. But perhaps I should point out that I hopped on for a photo and hopped off... well not really hopped!!! More climb and clamber lol!!!

Still 3 weeks (to due date) and hopefully shortly after i'll have my hat back on hacking and riding properly, I cant wait :)

As was said earlier, take what ever is said with a pinch of salt. Forums are meant to be fun, informative and give support. I also think that sometimes its very easy also to misinterpret someones comments as negative when they are trying to give positive advice, but it may not come over as that. ;0)

Just thought I would drop in here and say "Hi".

I am Sacha, aka Jerokee. 25 from Essex and expecting my first baby on 29 September.

Owing to the above, I have Jerry a 14.2 (ish) KWPN x QH Blonde and White gelding.
He had a rough start in life, neglect, starvation etc etc :( but here he is just the other day with myslf and "bump"

so hello and looking forward to getting to know you all :)
xx

Congrats on the bump, your horse is gorgeous, have fun on here and don't take some peoples comments too seriously, have fun :)

I guess i would be frowned apon if i told you i was riding to hounds at 7 mths pregnant, and i was like a beached whale!!Had to use a landrover bonnet to get on and off!

... but I fear the OP will never come back to the asylum now!

My fault I think. I didn't mean to shove her into the spotlight, I was actually trying to be friendly.

I hope she's made of tough enough stuff to stick around. Although, she might find she never again gets such a huge response to a post....

Don't mean to sound like a stick in the mud but trust me the work really begins once the baby is born! I'd have had more time and energy to ride whilst pregnant, than once baby popped out! I didn't ride whilst pregnant though as my two are very sharp and I wasn't willing to take the risk. Not that I'm totally against riding whilst pregnant, that's up to each person, I just didn't feel comfortable doing it. It does make me kind of cringe though! The footwear and hat thing is a more a bugbear! Only because I just can't do it! I walked down to the horses once in my flipflops, realised I wasn't wearing proper shoes and couldn't go in the field! Just doesn't feel right! Although when you've had a few friends die from riding accidents, it does make you more wary I think.

Welcome :)

I'm also pregnant with my first, although a little further along than you - only 4 weeks to go! I rode until 25 weeks, I wasn't jumpin gor anything but I trusted the horse 100% and there was absolutely no way I was going to fall off. However I had to stop as I developed SPD and just walking the dog is too taxing for me now :(

Am counting down the days until I can get back on! And till baby is born of course :D

Anyway, mary King was eventing till she was 5.5 months, so me bumbling about on a very solid friesian x ID hardly compares!

LOL ! No frowning from me, just relieved that there are some women left who don't see pregnancy as a disability. Was beginning to think that some mothers-to-be were too precious to carry on with their daily lives. Unless the horse is very unpredictable, riding with a bit of commonsense isn't going to do any harm. Keeps the body supple.
Driving a car is far more hazardous. Particularly in bad weather. Just wonder if those critics who know someone who had a car accident, didn't get in a car when pregnant ?

In the photo in question, it is quite obvious that the poster got on the horse for the photo to be taken. Horse is standing still and looking quite relaxed, how such a picture caused such controversy is laughable. Even mumsnet would be envious of the OTT reaction.

Welcome.....

As earlier folks have said take most things with a large dose of salt and let commonsenses prevail :)

Apparently most seem to be affected by our so called "nanny state"... It's sad, the OP has a mind of her own and obviously just had a lovely snap taken with her gorgeous pony and her precious bump :D

Most of us are friendly you'll find - all are mostly harmless... It's a forum. It's just words.

I've never had a problem, but then I don't tend to wade into the controversy, have enough of that in RL sometimes LOL!!

Hope you enjoy your stay here at the nuthouse :)

welcomeeee!1 i rode when i was pregnant, it was the snow that stopped me or i would have carried on! I mucked out when I was in labour and made sure the ponies were sorted and settled the toddled off to hospital, then the next day (with baby at mums round the corner) went to the yard, fetched them in ... and watched as my boyfriend mucked out haha!! (I was a little tender!!)

I was only in 'proper' labour for 3 hours, I managed to stay stood up throughout the whole thing and found it all relatively easy and i really believe its due to be keeping active and carrying on with the horses throughout my pregnancy. the midwifes even commented on my strong legs .. haha :D

p.s nice pony :)

Welcome!!

I've never been pregnant, so can't comment on that, but loved the old feeling of being a teenager and riding hatless, in shorts, up the field in just a headcollar and leadrope in the dog days of summer... I ride too many youngsters these days to be confident of going hatless any more.

I'm sure the OP knows her horse and wouldn't wantonly risk either her own life of that of her unborn child.

OP, your pony's gorgeous and I bet you'll have a ball when you do manage to get back on board. Good luck with it all xx

I rode when I was pregnant, and I know many more who have. I also rode my bicycle, drove my car, and many other things....

Are pregnant women to stop everything they enjoy?

Try reading my post again - "if you are going to ride when you are pregnant please please please take your's and your baby's safety seriously and wear suitable clothing and a hat. Otherwise - best of luck "

It is irresponsible to not look after your safety when you are pregnant - really don't think I have to point out that you are carrying a baby do I? Oh and I too rode, hunted and competed when I was pregnant (early stages) but I always wore a hat, back protector and suitable riding attire.

Bloody hell. Ive been reading this forum for years and I still cant get over what some people write... its getting worse.

The Op said she stopped riding 6 months ago she clearly just jumped on to have a pic taken, i would probably do the same. Will make a lovely photo to show the child, they were riding before they were born!

Re the whole hatless thing I always ride with a hat now but have gone hatless and shoeless when riding to turnout, when going western in the US etc, its a calculated risk.

How on earth did the human race manage to get through the last few thousand years galavanting around on horseback colonising and pilaging all four corners of the globe without everyone falling off and knocking their brains out because they werent wearing suitable safety attire.

OP stunning horse and hope the birth goes well!
