nice saddle but how much???!!!

The exact saddle I want sold on ebay for about £400 a couple of weeks ago. Gutted that I missed it!! If anyone spots one of them with the above measurements, let me know!!

DO any of you who know about saddles have ideas as to any other brands that are very similar to the farrington in their shape/tree etc so likely to fit the horse if the farrington does. Trying to work out what others it might be worth trying. I tried a few at the fitting but hated most of them except this one! I haven't tried an ideal, so was wondering about this.

I've got a 17.5" MW GP Ideal (Its not for sale!!) and I love it. Very comfortable and has fitted my last 3 horses (have had proper saddler out to check, he has had to tweak the stuffing a bit, that is it.
Albions seem pretty forgiving too but I think they are more than Ideals.

TBH I think of that as quite cheap.
I have just started thinking about a dressage saddle for one of mine he's maturing and soon I don't think any of my tack room saddles will do much longer.
It's going to cost nearly £4000 for what I think I want and I could spend more.
It's scary.

TBH for a new leather saddle - under 1K I class as budget, 1-1.5K is 'normal', 1.5K-2.5K is what I would consider a reasonable performance/competition saddle to cost and 2.5K plus is expensive.

That said, it makes far more sense to buy a good condition, not very old secondhand saddle.

For a good quality GP you should budget circa £600, for a performance saddle 1-1.2K

Are you sure you don't want to sell ;)

I wouldn't mind if I thought it would be my perfect forever saddle, but I've only had him 2 weeks and he's my first horse. I don't yet have a really good idea of what I like from a saddle and what I am likely to want (i.e. whether a GP will be fine forever or whether I will want a jump/dressage in the future). Also, the saddler commented that his back muscles are quite weak at the moment so this is something I will be working on with help from an instructor. I don't want to spend a fortune only to find it's not right in 6 months time!! She felt he probably won't change shape too much, but I have heard so many horror stories about saddles not fitting after a change in workload etc. I do want to get it right in terms of his comfort though, and to make sure he is in a saddle which doesn't prevent him from muscling correctly.

It's a decent GP I am looking for for the time being.

Have you called Sean at Jods Galore? They are prob best in the area for holding secondhand stock. Otherwise a bit further afield, Centall saddlery, Hall Place in Tilehurst also hold secondhand.

You should check out the new GFS range!! Brand new leather saddles at little more than 500 quid, and all with a fully adjustable gullet system.

I would try Saddles Direct, they have lots of saddles. You can send for 2-3 saddles to keep for a week whilst you have a saddler to fit them. You only pay once you have decided to keep a saddle.

The lady there is very helpful if you ring her first.
