So i have a nice warm stable waiting but no horse!!!

Ive been looking and looking for a while on all the usuals (horsemart, H&H, Horse trader, horse hunter etc) and cant seem to find much on the market, there is a reason to not even contact for more info on most ads ie not novice ride, green, needs bringing on etc

I have now got a stable confirmed at a fab local yard so really on the hunt for the 'perfect' horse, if there is such a thing!!!:D

Budget 3k looking for a sensible 10yr + 15hh been there done it sensible real confidence giving horse (will be my first horse as an adult following a 10yr gap from riding), not looking for anything fancy just a happy hacker that will fill me with lots of confidence.....

Why cant i find anything? Any suggestions on where to look?

would you like mine? hes turning semi feral! got to see him yesterday for the first time in over a week!

are you any where near exeter, come the better weather mine will be wanting more exercise if you want something to hack. (he is a rude sod on the ground currently thou. )

oh and have a look on right horses.. theres a fair few on there.

Possibly because you're looking for what everyone wants but you don't have the budget.

I had a chap that would have fitted the bill perfectly - not a world beater but a nice safe competent confidence giver who would have a go at anything. I sold him for nearly twice what you want to pay - and I could have sold him ten times over.

Good luck in your search.

btw I found my superstar by placing wanted ad. I only got one reply but he was perfect.

The weather here is atrocious i live in Ipplepen and surviving with OH's 4x4 which i have paid the price of getting up early and dropping him to work in order to have it for the day!! I have never known the weather to be this bad since i was little!!

Im always looking for something to hack so feel free to PM me!! I am off to look on right horses..!!

neddie is in bridford.. have a google, we are about 20 mins from newton abbot!

our hacking is fab tiny bit of roads but then your on byways, other people to ride with two..

but i must say again neddie is a pain in the but on the ground.. i will work on this but until the weather improves no point in doing things on an intermitten basis.

ridden wise hes as goods as gold, not spooky, doesnt pull doesnt get hot.
(he was somebodys 1st horse and has been used in a riding school)

if you search under my name on my previous threads for cob related things theres some pics.. hes around 14.2hh and 10 and no hes not for sale LOL.

I know exactly where you are we were looking at several houses in the teign valley but nothing suited so ended up at Ipplepen.

I am definately interested as any experience is good experience as they say!! As i said in my original post i had a bad accident 10yrs ago and ended up not getting back into riding untill 6 monthes ago so ultimately looking for my own but if your neddy helps me build my confidence and you get some pleasure in him being excercised then i am only too willing :D!!

Feel free to PM me.

I have pmd you hun, when i can get there am more than happy to work with you both and come out on foot with you. Dont worry wouldnt go heres the pony go for a ride!

You will find something - don't stress. Oh and I think £3k is more than reasonable a budget for what you're after. I wouldn't even spend that but then maybe up here in Yorkshire there just always seems to be loads for sale for that budget or less. I would be lookimg to spend half what you have! Lol. Good luck!

You may have to look further a field. But I think you will find the right horse eventually. I will do some horse shopping for you as am bored.

Yep i am kinda resigning myself to that luckily transport is not a problem as OH has access to various boxes / lorries, just was trying for something local as first option!!

Thanks for the horse shopping i can't see the woods for the trees now, if you know what i mean!!

There is a couple of fab neddys that fit the bill that ive enquired about but they are either sold or arent returning calls/ emails!! Bad time of year i know really...

Very few people put their horses up for sale in December because there are so few buyers at this time of year and of those that haven't sold yet, they are starting to think of spring around the corner.
I think for 3k you can expect a reasonable horse that will be what you list, but as others have said, its pretty much what everyone is looking for so they tend to sell by word of mouth and of those advertised, they sell fast.

I bought the coloured in my pic last summer for what you are looking to spend and he's so fab my 9 year old not only rides him on a regular basis but has nabbed him off me for her next horse, he's only 14.3hh at present but his butt is 15hh so he's still growing - he's only 4!
I set out looking for an older horse, totally dismissed ones under 8 until I met Billy, I'd have missed out on the most fantastic horse if I'd just said no way due to age.
I guess what I am saying is, the general consensus is 10+ when looking for a confidence giver, so the whole world is looking at the same horses, yet there are equally fab younger ones. So maybe broaden your search in more ways than 1? x

dont panick about the age!

ive bought off Avril (EA owner) and she was the first time i went to a dealer,

she left me to it with the horse was very honest about him, I went to view 2 years ago on boxing day when it was pure ice everywhere! we still managed a hack.

as a seller I could not reccomend her high enough, ive since dealt with her on a personal level and she is as honest as they come.

if you consider going that far down, there are a coulple of more decent dealers in the same area, travel back to devon shouldnt cost you more than 150.. although vettings tend to be more expensive in the SE,

You perhaps need to look outside the box?

I'm bragging now, but got myself a fantasic 7 year old SFx mare rather cheap 20 mnths ago, purely because she was a burnt out SJ with pain related issues. They are now resolved With time and patience she has turned out to be a well schooled school mistress and great confidence giver, whose also well bred and stunning to look at. She's loads of fun and even jumps now!

I confess, I could never of afforded a quality horse like she's turned out to be. I'm very, very proud of her and so lucky.

Look at everything, in fact leave no stone unturned and you might be suprised at what you will find.

Good luck in your search.

Gorgeous horse JHoward.
From the same website these are interesting.
I like the look of this one, might be a bit too much for a novice though.

Mmmm, OP I feel your pain, know what its like to look for a horse and not find!

Its a blimmin shame, coz my boy would suit you down to the last whisker, but he ain't for sale unfortunately.

The way I acquired him was coz a trekking centre (can PM you with the name of it if you like) on Dartmoor always look for winter homes for their trekking horses and I took him on just for the winter initially, and liked him, so bought him. The advantage of this is you get a nice long trial without having to make a commitment; but obviously its something you need to do in the autumn not this time of year.

The other thing you could do is use an agent; I did this to sell something I'd bought a few years ago which was a bit too sharp for me, and was pleasantly surprised. Again, I can PM you the name of the person I used if you like.

Good luck!

These people have an excellent rep. and their horses do what it says on the tin. But they are not cheap. A friend bought from them and was really happy.

This is their other site, they have slightly cheaper horses.
Take a look at Dolly she sounds like a sweetie.

Hope you are able to find what you are looking for or, more likely, your horse will find you.
