My yearling thinks fences are there for his own personal fun. Over, under or through. He's not fussed.

At the moment he goes through the electric fencing on a daily basis, and of course, once its down, all the other go thru too.

Next week I'm getting wood, to make 2 rails in the hope this will discourage him. Any other suggestions?

I'm wary to put any kind of wire fencing as I'm sure he'll do himself no end of damage on it. The perimeter fences are wire, but they have big hedges on the other side, so he doesn't bother with it.

The fences he goes thru are the ones splitting the field up, in an effort to save the grass and let it grow. Before him, we had a nice little rotational system so they had freash grass every few weeks.

Is there enough zap going through the fence? Have you done the mean mother bit and wet his nose before making him touch it?

Our section b goes through the leccy fencing in the winter (but only when she's got a rug on and can't feel the zap

Bloody horses...........

Is the electric fencing on. I jhave a pony that was just walking through the fences but since I bought a mains powered charger he doesn't. It is much more powerful than the battery one I had before.

Damn yearlings! I spent a fortune on dear height electric fence posts as I thought the yearling was jumping out..... Then while still putting them up I found out how he got out, he'd approach in canter side on to the fence, then suddenly buckle at the joints and shimmy under the bottom wire.

If the fence was off the little rat would go along and pull the plastic tops off the star fence posts and leave the top wire dangling.

If he's wearing a rug hang a length of metal chain from the front strap - works well.

Make sure that the fence is well earthed - if the ground is really dry, tip a bucket of water over the grounding wire. If battery operated then keep the unit well charged. Also make sure that the fence can't short out along it's line, no long grass, wooden fence posts or hedging touching it.
