Well im sure you all got bored of my saddle posts about 5 months ago, I have a very difficult horse to fit and was really struggling, Butet came out and said that they couldnt help me ( which I now respect ! ) however another similar company came out and sold me 2 saddles and every other bit of equipment going ! I had my doubts of the fit of the jump saddle when it arrived ( after a 3 month wait ) and the fitter came out and told me it was fine.

My horse has been lame for 2 weeks and I assumed it was from galloping in from the field and jarring himself as the lameness felt muscluar if you know what I mean. The Physio has come out today and told me that its my jump saddle and he cant wear it again !
Im gutted as it was the jump saddle that I liked, was already thinking about changing the dressage one as I really didnt like it !
So nearly £5000 later im at stage 1 with a sore horse ! A number of you did raise your concerns with this brand to start with and now I wish id listened.
We had a nightmare show jumping round at smiths lawn the other week and he stopped with me for the first time ever sj, I can now see why he stopped and I feel so bad !
Am hoping to sell these saddles and try the Amerigo - Feedback anyone !

Thank you for reading !

Do you have a saddle maker in your area who can make a saddle to fit your horse exactly. A friend of mine had one made and it was not any more expensive than buying a branded one.

Speaking to amerigo they say that they have a saddle that fits a high withered wide sloping warmblood but you wont know until you try it !
Ive tried nearly every saddle out there and have spent nearly £8000 is 2 years on saddles ! I just want something that is going to fit my horse and keep me on !
Never thought about using a local saddle maker ( not that I know of any ! ) as they never seem to be the style that I want - always imagine them being a bit GP like in style !

You need to get a registered saddle fitter to come out with a range of makes to try. Keep trying them until you find something you both like. Along winded process which often takes more than one visit but well worth it in the end.

Post where abouts you are and I'm sure people will recommend good local fitters.

Im in guildford and have tried every saddler I know. But am open to suggestions.
B - A wow ? Ill try it, right now ill give anything a go!

Amerigo are brilliant, the service was 1st class and I love my saddle, they came out and measured up my rather round, large shouldered TB X Welsh D mare for a single flap and then when it was ready came back out again to fit and watch me ride on it, the advantage of my saddle is that it also fits my other two TB's perfect too. Worth a try.

Well Amerigo have left some saddles for me to sit in at Chobham Rider and if I like them they will then come out. Not sure how much they are though ? and not sure where to sell my french things !
Ive tried every brand of the market now apart from Amerigo, barnsby and wow.

i would like to know the make of the problem saddle tbh. please pm me or maybe give initial letter(s)?
i'd get a master saddler out, or travel to a brilliant one, tbh. very very sorry you've had such an awful time. i can recommend 2 brilliant ones, btw.

Presuming your current saddles start with a D? I'm scared because I've just paid a £600 deposit for one to update my ancient Butets

Have you considered getting them back to make adjustments - they are supposedly good at doing this, a pro friend of mine had a horse to ride which came with a D saddle which didn't fit properly and they were fantastic, made numerous changes etc until it was perfect; she was so impressed she ended up buying one for herself! Just a thought before you spend a fortune all over again...

Hi K
"D"
Ive used a local master saddler, nothing that he stocked fitted. I have to use someone 100% genuine as some people might sell me something that is the "best fit" but doesnt really fot its just the best of a bad bunch!
Argh !!
Recommendations of heaven sent saddlers most welcome !

Mark Fisher, Wisbech. Master Saddler, does all the British Event Team horses. incredibly thorough, patient, and knowledgeable. stocks most top makes, will take the time to help you choose whatever exactly suits and fits your horse and you.
Barrie Swaine in Walsall, excellent saddler. saddles individually made to order.
can't recommend either highly enough.

They are coming out next week so we will see what can be done, my physio has agreed to be there so I cant get fobbed off.
To be fair the director is being very helpful at the moment - im fuming with the fitter though ! i have a different one coming out.

A second thumbs up for Mark Fisher - I'd travel to him no matter where from, he's just fab, will not sell you a saddle unless it actually fits.

K - Sorry my geography is terrible ! Where is that in relation to surrey ? also for a cost would he travel - the mark guy ?
just reading up about barrie at the mo on his website.

Wisbech is near Ely in Norfolk. Mark has an arena at his place if you do decide to travel out there (and tbh I would at this point!). He does travel quite far though as well, last time I spoke to him, he was off to Devon to sort out Mary King's saddle pre-Olympics!

So sorry to hear your boy is sore

and that you're having such trouble with saddles - what a nightmare for you!

Ive got an Amerigo Vega for Hattie which i absolutely love, for me i find it more comfortable than the proper Amerigos! and its cheaper but made by the same factory just with a plastic tree rather than a wooden one
smile.gif
Fingers crossed you can sort this out

Doesnt surprise me re. the D saddle am afraid, heard a couple of very similar reports...

Try a flocked saddle, far more adjustable and kinda on their backs.... I know not as fashionable, but may make the difference.

Another thumbs up for Mark from me too

He travels much further afield than Devon, apparently he is off to Africa soon to fit saddles

I kid you not

Lol - great guy! Next time you see him, tell him to tell you the story about when he was a stunt double in the film Gladiator.. I nearly cried with laughter..

I got the chobham saddler to fit me a made to measure Ideal saddle (he did templates and sent to ideal factory) - might be a viable option for you. It cost me £900 which is not a huge cost for a saddle which is made to measure!
