Norfolk terriers….. or it could be Norwich terriers…. the ones with the folding ears!

I think the floppy ear ones are Norfolk. I like them as well. Very few about and I believe they have small litters. That's the extent of my knowledge

A relative has had three in succession, all bitches. They have all been nice dogs, both at home and at the owners business in a busy office in central London (they weekend in the country). They were the least terrier-like terriers I've known, but that may have been the lifestyle or the owners. The first two died aged 13 and 15, and as far as I'm aware they were healthy dogs. I don't have a lot of experience with the breed in general but out of the ones I've known they have all been confident, friendly, happy and well trained little dogs, and I would be happy to own any of them.

There are one sort bred locally, sorry, not sure which, but they are all horrid yappy little things, forever absconding, especially after rabbits I believe.

I’m only laughing because sadly that sounds exactly like my 2 JRT - except they don’t get the chance to abscond! I live in a row of little terraced houses and neighbours on both sides have also got noisy terriers - so every time one goes out in the garden and barks, it sets the others off Greyhounds were a lot more peaceful

There is one for sale an hour away from me - a mere £1500 and it’s a cross breed I looked at the pics and thought immediately “that’s not a Norfolk” but it is only when you read the advert they admit it’s a cross breed - why do people do that?!?

There are 2 owners locally who I wasn’t sure about. I have checked and both have had Norfolks. I’m not sure if they still breed.

I've known several, strangely. A livery yard I was at had a pack of them lol. They were brave enough to take on a mink on the yard one day.. Lovely, fun generally uncomplicated but quite canny terrierists!

I wanted a Norfolk when we were looking last autumn, but honestly couldn't justify the excess of 3k (more likely 4k+) for one.
Had one 40 yrs ago, the best lorry dog ever. That said, his recall was absolutely rubbish, if we were going on a road trip in the horsebox I made sure he was attached to baler twine or similar before we left or the little bugger would go off rabbiting.
He slotted in very well with my then GSD.

My friend had two when I lived in Norfolk and they were great little tykes, very hardy and just my sort of terrier. I think they were Norfolk as opposed to Norwich but I am damned if I can remember which way their ears went, well it was a long time ago and I probably have some sort of dementia going on now, so best I can do.

My family have had a couple of both in the past. Wonderful, vocal, funny little terriers.
All bitches, very entertaining and fun pets. My Norwich was a great pal and came to horse events in my lorry. She was the perfect companion.

I would have another in a heartbeat only for the crazy amounts being charged now.

When my friend was looking for a Norwich terrier she couldn’t find any even looking hours away, she ended up with a border terrier, they are lovely little dogs if you are looking for another terrier

My granny took one on (sticky up ears) when a friend became too frail and he was the perfect little older persons/family dog apart from from his penchant for eating stones (actual and peach variety).

Hmmm. Sounds like George (who I’m pretty sure had no Norfolk or Norwich in him!) - seems like a terrier thing

There are several locally and our saddler used to have them. Lovely little dogs, always liked them.

My friend looked into them after losing her little dog a few months ago - very lovely but very expensive was her conclusion!

I looked them up to see which was which. I’d have been able to identify both as either or but not specifically.
I love that the breed description I saw says loveable, happy, spirited, fearless and companionable! that and the fact they are small and hairy!

There are rescue societies for Norfolks and Norwiches! May be worth getting in touch with them.

I'm surprised nobody else remembers it by that:

Think NorFOLD but say NorFOLK.
Norwich is you see pointy tips.

I've only briefly met 1 or 2 of each through the years, maybe seen a few more than that on dog shows, so not much to go on. But the few I have met, I remember as nice, happy-go-lucky dogs.

Apart from the ears, is there any difference between the two types, eg height, tempremant, weight etc does anyone know?
