hi there... I'm looking for your collective knowledge and experience of nose bleeds.
My pony has a really light trickle nose bleed from.his left nostril only. Otherwise he is completely well and showing no other signs of being poorly.
He had it one day... then it completely stopped for a day then it started again and has trickled all day...not enough even to drip...just dries on his nose. It's been super hot. Both times it's started seems to have been when he's been wearing his grazing muzzle for the two hours they're on the long grass between 6 and 8am. Other than that he doesn't wear a muzzle but I don't know whether this is relevant or not. He's out with others and they often bite at each other. I'm quite worried about him...you always think the worst of course. If it was a scratch by a twig... shouldn't it have stopped by now?
Any thoughts? Thank you...

Yes...I probably should have said that I'd had a long conversation with my vet but my post was getting a bit long! She decided it wasn't an emergency to come out on a Sunday and she'll come today. Often this forum is a good place for a helpful and knowledgeable chat.

I wonder if he is getting a lot of pollen up his nose, being restricted and contained by the muzzle, that is causing him to sneeze violently bursting a blood vessel, often it is something simple that can easily be changed.

I was told one nostril is most likely some sort of irritation / physical thing and if it's not lots don't worry.
Both is likely to come from the lungs and that's a different matter.

My old eventer had them on occasion - fast work, too hot etc. I just took it easy with him for a few days afterwards.

I was told the same when I had a cob that used to have slight nosebleeds from one nostril - but that was about 30 years ago!

Hope you get an answer / some reassurance.

Don't ignore ongoing nosebleed, even if slight.
My mare had very minor nosebleed, one side only, well in herself. Vet scoped & found nothing - suggested a traumatic injury of some sort & should resolve in a month or so.
3 weeks later it hadn't & she then started to get stiff neck, went off her food, found a small lump near her poll, her age (26ish) & finances dictated that we'd didn't investigate further & pts.

Don't ignore. That was the first sign of a guttural pouch infection in a friend's horse and he ended up really sick
Unfortunately my friend had a similar experience and it was a gutteral pouch tumour . Hopefully a rare thing and not in this case.
