was just wondering what is the most popular nose band used mine wheres a mexican nose band ! but there are now so many!

caverson
crank
flash
drop
grackel
mexican grackle

and probably more just the common ones !

and why people use this one ?

I don't normally use one - will put on a grackle for 'special occasions' i.e. when out hacking/galloping with other horses or sometimes xc - normally if I'm doing a pairs class and need to keep really steady to baby another horse round. He doesn't cross his jaw so not using it for the correct purpose but find it gives me more instant brakes (although good enough without) and helps with steering. He dislikes flashes and goes all wooden with one on so no noseband/occasional grackle use works for us!

Mine wears a cavesson most of the time as she doesn't open her mouth or cross her jaw - I like to keep it simple :) I do use a kineton for xc though as she didn't appreciate me fiddling about with her bitting, but the nose pressure gives me some added control.

I use a drop noseband on Meg for schooling and dressage.
She has a cavesson noseband for jumping and cross country (normally anyway).
She can also be ridden in a double bridle for showing, so actually she is very aminable (sp?)!!

My new horse came with a flash, but took it off on the 4th day and haven't had cause to use it since :) Might consider having a go with a grackle for XC, as i found yesterday that he can be a bit argumentative when asked to stop/slow down when going XC :p He sort of 'yaws' with the bit and crosses his jaw. Been absolutely fine for everything else though.

drop noseband as its more comfortable and doesnt strap mouth shut like a flash it only works when she opens her mouth -

when showing in pelham a normal cavesson

Whatever works!
Would prefer to use a drop than a flash, but seeing as he dislikes the drop (presumably because he has a short mouth, so it has no option but to sit quite low otherwise pulls the bit up), wears just the cavesson if in a pelham.
Would also use a grackle/kineton if needed, entirely depends on what we're doing, what bit we're using, etc.

On my loan pony I just used a regular cavesson, a drop for when we went XC though. At the stables that I'm riding at, there seems to be a fashion with the liveries to use a mexican grackle though! xx

Ban;

Correctly fitted cavesson (i.e I can fit 2 fingers underneath it) for flat and hacking

Grackle for SJ and XC as I find I have more controll with it and I can use a snaffle (most of the time :p)

Lord;

Grackle at all times as this is what he has always worn and he is comfortable in it although I want to "downgrade" him into a flash or a drop :)

I use a crank flash :) just to be awkward. Or rather a crank cavesson with flash attachment.

I use it because thats the bridle I own - the crank is never "cranked" only ever loose and I try to use the flash only for schooling.
