What nosebands do people use (if any) and why ? I don't use one personally and am always asked why not by people at my yard, basically he does not need one and when I have used on in the past it makes his bridle a bit tighter on him. He generaly is a nightmare to bridle, although you can groom and scratch his ears, as soon as it comes to the bridle he is very awkward.

What are your opinions ?

Sorry for the randomness of this post,
xx

Gyp has just a normal flat hunters noseband, he looks stupid with out one.

Hattie has a flash for everyday with her waterford and a flat hunter on her show bridle and her pelham bridle. But I have to put a flash with the pelham if I am cantering in company.

Just a fairly loose raised cavesson (has a flash loop). Maiden doesn't need a noseband really but she looks silly without! For shows I use a crank back padded cavesson as that's what came on my bridle. It goes as loose as it can.

Big cob has narrow raised cavesson with his pelham and with his snaffle he has a narrow raised drop noseband. He has a pony head.

Little cob has flat hunter cavesson as his head is a ltitle plain!

AA mare does not currently have a noseband but will be in a raised cavesson until/unless she proves to need anything else

I rarely use a noseband at home on anything.
When competing (polox) they usually wear them to attach the standing martingales to.
Occasionally I will use a flash on something that is hard to bring back down the gears, but find that if a horse is opening its mouth regularly while schooling on the flat they're usually only doing it because I'm not not riding well, or that they've been used to bad hands in the past which is something that improves with time once they learn to trust again.

Im sorry, don't want to offend you but i hate it when a horse/pony hasn't got a caverson noseband on. They just don't look right, but that is my opinion. Plus caversons don't do anything they just make the horse look better.

I use mainly just a caverson, but also flash and grackle when needed for jumping.

I use a plain cavesson but if we are competing (jumping) I will put the flash on as he does open his mouth a little and it just gives me a little more control when turning. He does resist it though which is why I dont use it when schooling at home.

At home I use a cavesson (it's actually a flash without the flash strap), it doesn't really do anything so it isn't much different to having no noseband.
For SJ/XC/hunting i use a grackle because it stops her opening her mouth which gives me a bit more control, and she prefers it to a flash. I also use a grackle for dressage at a ODE, but for pure dressage i use a flash because the grackle isn't dressage legal.

grackle as his biggest joy is hanging onto and grabing the bit but flash for dressage.

then for hunting .......... a kineton eeek bad pony gets tooooooo excited!!
