So I am watching "all the Queens Horses" and there is not a hard hat or body protector in sight - so am very confused about the lack of posters here claim "bad example"........etc.

Fab show

Looking at the skills of these riders I think we may look a bit more than stupid to start questioning hats etc or the lack of.
I can just see the Russian riders managing to pass under the belly of their galloping horse and back into the saddle with hard hat and body protector.
Have to say whilst watching this amazing collection of talent tonight I did wonder how long before the safety brigade appeared here.
Any chance of giving it a rest.

I thought it was an excellent programme; HRH was obviously having a ball :D We did joke that the Russian riders weren't wearing hats or BPs ;) Now you come to mention it, there wasn't much hi-viz in evidence either!!

The skills of all the riders and the beauty of every single horse was a joy to see! :D

I think the Hi-Wiz was a joke :p saying that i can imagine a dead soldier may cause a bit of a kerfuffle in front of all those people..

I never come in here but I think this might be one of my favourite posts ever. I think its the lack of irony that makes me smile the most :)

The thing that spoilt it for me was susan boyle !!!:D and not the lack of hard hats!!! stuff the cult of celebrity and stuff the wrap everyone in cotton wool H&S risk averse crap .. we did'nt become Great Britain by being carefull !!!!! the event was truly inspiring and a reminder we are still a great nation and have a fabulous monarch..

Susan Boil should wear Hi Viz so we can see her coming giving you time time to put the ear muffs on, and WTF is Joss Stoned singing ain't no mountain all about ? Don't think the Circus riders really need Hi Viz etc, not unless they were going to include the illegal trial bikes chav ******* boy racers drivers we come across in the display.

Loved the horsey stuff, horse's were all so well behaved for all the commotion.

Joss Stone had a neon orange tongue  and Susan Boyle had neon yellow teeth  Nuff said really.

I did actually see hard hats - on the jockeys ! Didn't those racehorses make the Queen smile.

So there you go, Hi Viz and hats - sorted xx

Well I missed it but am also concerned safety wise.
What if one of the riders fell of, and the horse galloped away and escaped? Surely it would need hi-viz.

Or if said loose horse went on a rampage in the crowd. Were the crowd wearing hats, back protectors and hi-viz?

Terrible example.

All I can say is....good grief... (hopes to heck this is tongue in cheek.... :D)

Not forgetting the Oman riders who were in skirts/dresses, barefoot or wearing pumps, no hats and their horses were bitless.

Shocking behaviour :D

I rate this thread 10/10.

As a famous stunt rider once said "If you get it wrong and you're underneath a galloping horse, you're dead anyway, regardless if if you're wearing a hat"

:D

Utterly disgraceful! Just think of all the kids at pony club camp this year who'll be trying tent pegging with swords and no hat, bp or hi viz?? :o

Just doesn't bear thinking about ;)

Eek, I was sat watching and thoroughly enjoying this last night and could only imagine the types of threads and comments springing up on here! I loved watching the Russian Cossacks, they're incredibly skilled and know their horses so well, not to mention the fact that they will have practiced this display for months in advance to ensure mistakes can be avoided

I used to be a competitive vaulter for a Scottish team a few years ago, we wore catsuits/ leotards, ballet pumps and absolutely no body/ head protection whatsoever. Half of the moves the Cossacks performed would have been impossible with body protectors on, hard hats for one thing make shoulder stands near-impossible and incredibly dangerous. Heavy boots may have helped protect feet whilst mounting/ dismounting at canter, but we would then have been far more likely to knock out a team mate by clunking them in the head if we had to mount two riders at the same time.

Sometimes you just have to watch these things with a different set of eyes and appreciate the skill involved, without taking a deep gasp of air at every contraindication to Health and Safety and all that jazz.

I just wish I could have been there to watch it in person, the Queenie looked like she was loving the whole show! Did anyone else see her reaction to Jean Francois Pignon's work with the foal? So proud to have a true horsewoman as our monarch :)

Whilst I have a hat, BP and a truck load of hi-viz, I do think sometimes H&S has gone a bit crazy!

Jackie Chan was told to wear a harness to climb a tree! Ambulances, firemen and all sorts were there waiting to catch him!! Do you think this man needs all that?! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cI1AwZN4ZYg&ob=av3e
At least his Hong Kong audience knows he can do it, it seems to be just USA and UK that
have gone a bit mad for H&S :P

(P.s I know the post is tongue in cheek, I'm just always reminded of Jackie's incident with H&H when these threads are started :P)

Fantastic show! I love the dueling strings! Although it always gives me an uneasy feeling :P
