Oh my god, I didn't know whether to laugh or stare in horror!
I can't believe he carried on and then it came off AGAIN!
A reminder to us all to check our hats regularly!
 
I'm amazed the horse recovered from that :O I thought it was going down!
Hope that rider was ok, that hat must have been such a poor fit to come off that easily!
 
Crikey that hat was all over the place he was lucky not to get his head stamped on! Well recovered by the horse on the second one I thought that was a somersault happening :-0
 
Saw this on FB a while ago. If you look at his BP, this looks incredibly old & in no way fits him now - I think in his youth he was a much slimmer man & had a good deal more hair - say about 20 years ago???

The hat looks like it has a chin cup on it too, I thought they were banned! I love the irony of the Point-2 that he is wearing, although it appears to not have inflated either so multiple safety failure there!
I thought under FEI rules, which most countries home associations look to for guidance say that if the hat falls off it is elimination automatically? I might be wrong though.
 
Ah ha, all this shock horror! In t' olden days we had rubbish hats that were secured under our chins with a bit of elastic (as mentioned by Jennifer Saunders iirc). No wonder I spent so much time in hospital with concussion!
 
ah the good old elastic chin strap !! hahaha, your hat always pinged when you got it caught on low branches and then it snapped back to hit you. happy days !!
 
I thought the pictures were pretty funny TBH, and why do so many think he was "arrogant" to carry on? He was obviously determined, and went on to prove that riding, and even falling off in a pretty major way, without a hat does not automatically result in your head exploding as a lot of people seem to think.
