Sounds like you've made a great recovery- well done !

Just a word of caution for your older years as my mum suffered a similar break on her 50th birthday 🤦🏻‍♀️
As she's got older she's had circulation problems in that leg and blood clots , basically the circulation isn't normal in her leg /ankle because of the way it broke. So please do keep an eye on the swelling and any varicose veins or veins looking like that.

Good to hear and well done. I’m now 11 months on from my break and am doing pretty much usual stuff though it’s a bit stiff first thing. I’m impressed that you’re running without a limp. I forget, go to run and a few strides in start to hobble 😂. I still do some of the exercises that the physio gave me as I think it’s done my good ankle some good too. Onwards we go.

I must also thank you all for your support after my accident and in the months that followed. My whole life as I knew it had to temporarily stop (i am not designed for sitting around at home!) and this forum honestly helped to keep me sane and the posts and messages of support I had were overwhelming.

I did the thing everyone does when they are laid up at home with a broken bone and I googled the injury, particularly with regards to riding. I’m hoping that if anyone in the future does the same, this thread might pop up and offer them a bit of hope, or at least give them an hour or so of entertainment from the boredom of being stuck at home!

No doubt it will cause my problems in the future, I’d be surprised if I get away with it, given there’s very little cartilage left in that joint now, but I’ll jump off that bridge when I get to it!

So pleased and relieved to hear that you have recovered so well after your accident.

I admit to thinking of you each time I see this cartoon pops up on FB. I'm not sure what happened to the footwear you were wearing at the time of your fall, but you are one tough cookie, for sure 🙂.

Fortunately they were only Dublin Pinacles, though still £150.
I watched him cut it off in the ambulance 😅

Worst was I had a pair of new riding tights on that I loved! They got hacked off aswell 🤣
I then got tangled in them in the trauma unit because I needed a wee and I was trying to go in a bed pan (they wouldn’t let me get up), but my knickers got tangled up in the leg of the jods that had been cut apart and in my struggle I flashed a poor nurse and my mother, all while laughing my head off. It was not dignified at all!

Broke both sides of right ankle in 2009 and it’s still bigger than the other one so yours will probably always be like that. Had a plate and 9 pins put in.
