Didn’t see a thread on this already. I am now the proud owner, for a year anyway, of the riding club chairman’s award aka the ‘falling off and getting back on’ award 😆 for my achievements in going froom A&E at camp to coming 2nd in the dressage championships.

I went to the AGM last night to collect my award and am inspired to do some more BRC activities next year. Will stick to the flatwork for now and aim for their intro champs, at prelim level. On a related point, I’ve got a flying changes confidence coaching 1 day (unmounted) workshop next week.

I’m meeting up with friends this weekend so not sure how much riding I will do but am hoping to get down for at least 1 of the days. Hoping this autumn sunshine sticks around!

Whats everyone else up to?

Well done on your award! :D

I was supposed to have a schoolmaster lesson today but I'm not feeling well (fatigue) and last week I spent basically the whole lesson at halt watching the other rider because I was too nervous to walk much more than one circle. I did have a lead rein trot at the end and at least I didn't get off but I just couldn't bring myself to try again this week.

I'm dressage writing on Sunday which I'm looking forward to. :)

I shall be stomping through the woods with little A walking beside me each day. B Fuzzy is getting v above herself whilst on forced time out and despite small paddock as advised by vet, she's still making shapes!
Leaf raking will be my additional activity I think....

Bernster, well done on the award! 👏👏
I hope B Fuzzy is better soon. Although it sounds like she is feeling well in herself!

Nothing for me personally but Jack has an outing with his sharer on Sunday.

I’ll be far too busy cooing over my newest addition 🥹

I did manage a lesson with Cas this morning though. Going back to basics has done wonders so 🤞🏻 we can put it all together next weekend and get that final areas score for next year.

hope everyone has a good weekend

Still no riding for me (horse is on week 6 of box rest) but he has his follow up ultrasound on Monday so I’m hoping we can at least move to pen rest and get some idea of next steps.

As an aside, navicular changes were identified on his mri. At the moment we are dealing with an inflamed fetlock ligament before tackling the navicular.
question about insurance:
Both left legs are excluded entirely and both front fetlocks are excluded. So I would say his left navicular is excluded but his right isn’t.
The recommended treatment for navicular is Tildren, which is given by drip. You can’t treat one leg and not the other!
Any ideas how insurance would view that?
(I know, I keep meaning to call them)

Well done Bernster. Good luck those out competing. Little Critter - hope you get sorted. Saddlepsych’dHope your feeling better.

We’re on quiet winter period but had horse trace clipped as getting warm hacking. Housework day today. Possibly might go to Cheltenham tomorrow.

It was steroid injections instead of Tildren but my vets were just very careful about what they said on the claim form. I'd speak to your vets and see if the form can focus on the leg that's still insured - worst case I guess is they'll split it 50%

I've been away on a photography course in a very, very wet New Forest so mine have had a week off. Baby cob was sprightly but really well behaved for a short schooling session followed by a cool off hack this morning. Perhaps he's finally growing up......

Trying to do e-riders "prancing with poles" test but my brain wasn't remembering it today. Bit sticky on the left rein but warmed up out of it although only walk, trot given how squidgy my field has got. I'm really struggling to find a 20x40 arena to hire which is annoying.

Having not competed since September, and various car related dramas, managed to come 3rd out of a massive class (40+!) at Arena Eventing today! Which I believe qualifies us for champs at ALW in Feb.

In other news, we are 2wks into being fully barefoot and he is coping so well. On a surface and on roads/small gravel tracks you wouldn’t know he was newly barefoot. Hoof boots arrived on trial yesterday, tried on this afternoon and seem to fit ok from what I can tell! So tomorrow will be a hack to test them out, I’ve not ventured onto the moors since we took his shoes off as the tracks up to there are pretty rocky and uneven, so if weather is ok we will give it a go!

Wow great result! Lovely pics too.

I am feeling a bit better today so I last minute went for a riding lesson at the not-schoolmaster RS after chickening out of the schoolmaster lesson yesterday (or letting myself off the hook/giving myself a break, depending on how you frame it). I was unsure about it because it's group lessons not private/semi-private and the horse variability is quite big, but I so so glad I did it. I had a lovely horse to ride, got nervous but got on with it, did some no stirrups work, had a real 'lightbulb' moment regards weight aids and was cantering around pretty much no questions asked. A world away from last week standing in the middle of the arena all lesson trying not to cry!

We actually did something this weekend. I took my 2 year old for a handwalk down some trails about 30 min away. He was very good. We encountered other horses on the trail too, which was a moment of interest, but he handled it well. I couldn't have asked for anything more from him.

He has occasional young horse moments, but generally he's up for whatever. He seemed content enough plodding along with me. We went on a loop that was just under 2 kilometers.

I didn't have much in the way of plans, but they certainly didn't involve spending Saturday night strapped to a trauma board with a fractured spine. However, here I am.

Fell off, landed flat on my back, and managed to smash one vertebrae to smithereens without doing anything to the surrounding ones.
That sounds horrific. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Hope you are being looked after @Pippity

I've been driving about in my new car 😆 which I love and I'm hoping it won't break down quite as much and cost me hundreds of pounds every month but I'm sad I need to sell my van 😞 I did enjoy being a van driver.

Hacked out with new hacking buddy and was very well behaved if very hot yesterday both of us were boiled in the unseasonable weather. Need to get my arse into gear and start hacking by myself on Sundays as I have a reliable Saturday hacking buddy but Sundays not so much and I really need to ride both days as it's too dark during the week. I shall try schooling today but I fear she may be nappy as everyone else will be going out to the field.

Keep going @SaddlePsych'D you'll find your place and coach soon enough.

I doubt I'll be adding anything lesson wise to these threads from now on, and genuinely thinking about hanging up my boots. Price rise fron Jan 24... £115 for a 45min private or £86 for a group
Is finding a share an option? That seems like a cheaper route.

Omg! Those prices are insane

Yup, and while I don't think lessons should be £40 either, at those prices I'd be expecting a certain level of standard in all respects of the 'service' you're paying for.

I don't particularly want the committment at the moment - at least lessons you can pick up/put down dependent on life etc.

Sending best wishes to injured ponies and humans.

And congratulations to those with competition success!

Had a lesson today after a few weeks just hacking out- we really focused on the basics and trying to get a really nice walk/trot, and by the end the pony was producing some lovely work. We did a tiny bit of sideways on a circle, and he felt so light and moved away from my leg so easily!

He tries so hard, even though it's not always physically easy for him- and it's great I'm now at a yard where I can get regular lessons with him, because his way of going has probably improved more in a few months than in the previous 2 years!
