@Pippity hope you being well looked after. @SaddlePsych'D I’ve been for lunge lessons and schoolmaster lessons and they can vary so much depending on the horse and instructor. Glad you had good one.
Holy moly! That's certainly not cheap.Keep going @SaddlePsych'D you'll find your place and coach soon enough.
I doubt I'll be adding anything lesson wise to these threads from now on, and genuinely thinking about hanging up my boots. Price rise fron Jan 24... £115 for a 45min private or £86 for a group
What I'd really like is my own horse so that I can build a partnership and consistency, and have a bit more control over what kind of lessons I have (in my idealised view of horse ownership). It's hard keeping motivated sometimes when there's often changes of horse and/or instructor. I never quite know if I'm actually improving overall or if it's just luck of the horse/instructor combo!@Pippity hope you being well looked after. @SaddlePsych'D I’ve been for lunge lessons and schoolmaster lessons and they can vary so much depending on the horse and instructor. @Pippity sorry to hear about your injury! I hope you make a swift recovery.
ETA - really enjoyed dressage writing today. Fair play on all the competitors getting out there in the high winds and torrential rain (thankfully we were indoors for the actual tests). It was interesting to write for a Novice and Elementary test, and see how much more there is in them as you go up the levels!
I had a really lovely share before I moved. Then another after I moved that wasn't really the right environment and I lost quite a bit of confidence with that one. I also trialled one that was a lovely horse but it didn't seem comfortable walking on any surface (barefoot) and a couple of other things that meant I didn't feel right riding that one.I think being able to build a partnership with one horse is very nice, and there's a lot to enjoy about it. However, from both a practical and technical point of view, I know that my riding isn't as good as when I was riding other people's and riding a variety of horses. Part of that is fitness because some summers I was riding multiple times 3-5 days a week, but part of it is also just being able to ride more than one horse!
Since getting my pony, I can count on one hand the number of times I've sat on different horses and ponies, to the point where I feel like if I got on a "proper" horse tomorrow, I feel like I probably wouldn't be able to ride it!
That said, if you're solely riding for pleasure, then it's very nice to know what you're getting on each time, as well! I think you had a share in the past? Any chance of finding something similar now if time/finances allow?
Fingers crossed you can find something suitable that will help you build your confidence!I had a really lovely share before I moved. There's one livery yard I went to recently to try one and wasn't quite right for me but the YO said they will keep me in mind if any of their other owners are looking for a sharer. That one was more expensive but a good set up for someone at my level and what looks like a very inclusive/friendly yard culture. Other than that I'm not actively looking and a bit wary of putting out another wanted ad. Trying to find the right location/livery/horse/owner combo is pretty tricky, especially for my lack of experience and desire to ride anything described as "quirky" or similar!
