So, it's my 16th in two days *woooooo* and now, after a year of deciding what I want for my birthday i've decided.
Sort of as a pity buy but it keeps springing up and I want it!

So basically, family have offered money for my birthday (not being told how much) but if I get enough I am determined to buy this little mite.

Yes I know about cost of keeping a horse etc...

Gosh, all I ever wanted for my 16th was a DD advert too, OP. Horseloaner, why can't you accept that some of us don't want flash adverts, like H&H ads - we like our common DD adverts :mad:

It's a real scrawny looking thing. I'll try and fix it.

- Type in Wakefield and it's a little skewbald yearling colt tied to a gate, really small scrawny looking thing.
My heart bleeds for this little mite.
 
BC/S, you know a colt's not the way to go at this stage, neither is a yearling even if it had no bits, neither is a pity buy. You will see many, many you'd like to do that for but: don't. You couldn't have them all, anyway, and at worst you will be paying for the owner to produce more 'pity buys'. I know/hope you're aware of all this already.

If you've got to the point where you're able to get a horse, are there any shares atm

I have no idea what your level of riding is - so I really can't say. :p I do like a nice ex-racer though and he does look nice. :)

Ah yes, I did forget to mention my riding ability. Well i've being riding for 12 years, I would say i'm quite confident. I enjoy jumping and have done a few local shows, nothing major. I've fallen off a few times, but haven't we all :D
I've also been hunting (very fun experience).

Oh my, that horse is rather good looking. £500 Bargain!!
 
If you want to see the full ad, he's on arabianlines in the geldings section. Probably not a wise choice for a first horse (is that correct?) unless you have a lot of knowledgeable support.

The loans I have found are either too far away or unsuitable.
Tbh, I think if I had my own i'd enjoy it more without having to worry about what the owner may think.

Without wishing to put a downer on your plans- have you really thought it out?
I would also have given my right arm for my own horse at 16, at 30 I am still waiting for time/funds/life to allow it :(

If you need your parents to contribute to the horse financially they have a rather large say in it's purchase( I would hit the roof and not stop if my son ever told me he had bought a pet and expected me to pay for it! ) and they also need to be OK about mucking in as and when you need it.

You also need to be completely sure that your horse won't stop you living your life-many go up for sale in the autumn as their owners move onto uni. To miss out purely because of a horse would be madness.

I wish you luck whatever you decide,but don't think of RS time as a waste. The one thing I really have over other riders I know is that because I HAD to get on whatever I was offered, I now CAN get on whatever is offered and get a tune out of it.

What about a share? I know what you mean about having your own, but help and support from others really is important when you get your first horse. :) If you have a really supportive yard, then having your own would work as long as your parents are happy with it. ;)

I got accepted into a college and you can take your horses there! (Not to board just on like odd days) So it'd be ok!
Nono! I'm not asking for my parents to pay for one. I recently lost my job - another downer I know - but I am job hunting and so I will be paying.

Maybe you're right. But well, I feel ready for a horse. After longing for one for years and now I get the chance.

I don't know anymore.

Meh, I did not make a great start at the yard near by. I was immature and ballsed it up ('scews my language)
I know what you mean about a Share but I just can't help feeling i'd fall out with whoever I shared with.
Unfortunately I have a big mouth and get into trouble voicing my opinions. X

Well I was, am in. I don't know. We keep moving towns. Still i'm nearer to college then I was but I don't know if I will go. I'm opting not to go, I want a job down south so i've filled out lots of application forms.

Perhaps I shouldn't get a horse until i'm settled with a secure job.
*sigh* more waiting!

Only a bad thing if you think it is!
Put the time to good use, read and learn as much as you can, find a good RS and maybe even do stages 1 & 2 if you feel up to it.
Thankfully , there are many ways to keep horsey without owning :)
