I just ride at weekends. Still nipping out quickly in the evenings just now, doubt it'll last much longer though

. There is a floodlit arena, but I don't use it.

I couldnt really keep my boy somewhere that he couldn't be ridden during the wek in the winter - hence the problems I had with him last year not getting enough exercise. New yard has an indoor school so atleast I can jump/lunge/school during the week....

Just ride at weekends. Luckly I finish work at 4 so can still fit a quick ride in before it gets too dark till about November.

It begs the question of whether it's worth having a horse between October and March????

Not really - early mornings, endless mucking out, lots of mud and total darkness - its just too appealing

lol chex, you put it so well....

In the winter, well any time now really, I go up to the stables first thing, muck out and ride then go to work for 9.30. It is usually light by 7, 7.30. Luckily I have a flexible workplace. There is a floodlit school at the stables, but I suspect it will be busy in the evenings.

I finish work at 4 so I can be ridden and off the horse by 6 which is fine at the moment, when the nights draw in we will be confined to the sandschool 4 times a week, it dies flood in heavy rains and can freze so you have to play if by here really. I tend to ride most days though, they generally are not out in the v wet winter as my mare suffers from mud fever and is more than happy to have a mooch in the school whilst I do chores and she goes out to play couple of times a week with another horse in the school.

I start work at 8.30am and we can't be on the yard before 7.30 so I can't ride in the mornings. I can get to the yard for 5 - 5.30pm ish after work and we have a floodlit school so it doesnt really matter. It doesn't bother me riding in the dark, or the cold, it's just the rain I don't like! I'm hoping for a dry winter as I'm not sure how the woodchip arena will stand up to rain in the winter...

I don't hack out anyway, so things won't really chnage for me. I will still ride 5 days a week and lunge once.

I've got a flood-lit arena to ride in, and will hack out once/twice a week as well. With plenty of lights and high-viz wear on me and the horse, and mostly well-lit roads we just wait for rush hour to calm down and off we go.

At the moment I get to the yard for about 5pm and go over to the school at about 6pm, I can still ride for nearly an hour at the mo.

The school is across a road and cars come along it quite fast, so I don't think I'll be able to ride in the evenings once it's dark, although if ponio isn't losing enough weight we may have to dress up like christmas trees and give it a go. Otherwise, I'll only be riding at weekends.

Am a 2 minute walk along a well lit road, and am then in Epping Forest with miles of off road hacking. I love hacking in the dark, although won't go on my own.

Also, one of mine has arthritis and ringbone, so too much school work is out of the question.

This will be my first winter having to ride in the evenings. I used to work evenings so I had all day to ride but with my new job I will have to ride in the dark. We have a floodlit school and I have no choice but to ride Gin. Shes not the sort of horse you can just ride on a weekend.
Im determined to keep up with her work this winter as I would like to carry on competing.

We have a floodlit outdoor so he gets ridden as usual throughout the winter.

It also helps that I finish work at 4.00 so im usually down there by 4.30.
