Numpties shouldn't be allowed to school

Have just read through this whole thread and found it most entertaining - thought the original post was completely patronising and provocative, maybe had some truth to it in terms of people hauling their horses' heads in, but I think you will see this pretty much everywhere, and I think that most of us who understand about working a horse in an outline have mistakenly done this at some point without engaging the back end - doesn't mean we are the worst riders in the world though and shouldn't be allowed to school - just means that we got it wrong at that moment - and hopefully most will realise they got it wrong, partic. at affiliated level, by reading their judges comments. The thought of allowing stewards to pick and choose who is a *good* rider is pretty horrifying for all sorts of reasons.

I found it really annoying that arrogant old TT takes no account of people who have had lessons, know the theory of working a horse through from behind, but then get to the event (maybe their first one or two) and suddenly find that a) their legs have turned to lead and they can't sit in their saddles anymore and b) that Dobbin has transformed into something resembling a hobby horse, because they are both nervous and tense about being at a large event. So they fiddle around a bit with their hands, and push and shove a bit because they are nervous, but it doesn't kill either of them.

Guess what TT, this doesn't mean that they shouldn't keep schooling at home (I found this the most insulting thing about the whole post, that people shouldn't be allowed to school their own hosses - I mean, who else is going to do it? Blo*** Anky Van Grunsven?) and improving in their own sweet time, to the point that they can go to an event, relax their horse and themselves and gradually IMPROVE.

My horse went to his first ODE the other weekend - granted not affiliated, but his first none the less. We both numptied out a bit in the dressage, particularly in the canter through nerves (canter had been going wonderfully at home), ran through the first show jump and had 7 stops XC, but I guarantee you that horsy (and me) will come out next time having learnt from the experience, having had more *shock* schooling at home, and do a hell of a lot better. He may even progress to novice events at some point. See you there TT.

Bye the way Persephone, fantastic use of the God and Bono joke - PML!!

Was rather scared by the 'because I am b****** good' comment - my first live HHO troll!!

I have always thought that boasting and indeed pride, cometh before a fall. I also don't like imodesty, but maybe that was because I was brought up that way......

Sorry another essay 'cos I'm still working abroad and am bored

You have all made your point very clear.
But by making fun of me you are making fun of every other rider with rich parents.

Priceless! See, you don't need money to have fun!

TT, you're doing it again! Making wild assumptions about people you don't even know.

You've no idea what finances a particular person has. You've no idea how much of a 'clue' people on here have. You have no idea how many people here love their jobs.

You would've been better off apologising for the appalling way you phrased your OP and clarifying what you really meant rather than continuing to insult people left, right and centre.

Oh god, the emotion......

Don't be so silly, do you really think you are the only person on this forum to have come from money?

When you have removed your head from your bum, you will find other perspectives far easier to appreciate!

can I donate frank to OP to do a ODE on please!!!

Nothing like a welsh cob pone to bring you down a peg or two as knows most of the tricks in the book

How can you possibly know that none of us "do what we love" (I do, for example!) I think that if you had actually wanted an intelligent debate, you would have been less derogatory and laid your case out better - your original ill-thought out post comes across as nothing more than trying to get a cheap raise out of people you consider yourself as more knowledgeable than (a dangerous mistake to make on this forum!)

Also, how is making fun out of you making fun out of all riders with wealthy parents??

QR - I think everyone HAS made their point now though,

If TT is a troll, why are we feeding it?

If she isn't then it is starting to feel a bit like everyone is jumping on the bandwagon and mocking her. OK she started it but is there any need to keep on?

omg i think i have just wet my self with all the laughing
and to the poster you must of been a numpty at some point then , and as to u saying you work your way up
working your way up means earning it your self ( which alot of people on this site has already done ) not something that has been brought for then by there rich daddy
i been very enlightend to see you on here a few years time and to see what stage your at if your as good as you make out to be .

I used the word "many", that certainly does not mean all, so I wasn't making generalisations. I was just making the point that while a lot people claim that horses are the love of their lives, they don't actually get a chance to work with them, and I am lucky in that respect.
And since you lot seem to be making an awful lot of jokes, you seem pretty awful at taking them. It's the majority of people on this thread that are jumping down my throat no matter what I say... I was only having fun.
I am enjoying appreciating other peoples perspectives...clearly umbrellas are the items of choice.
And for people who are stopping 7 times across country, Pootleperkin, I would seriously recommend going cross country schooling before you overface your horse again!!

Weeell whatever. I love my job, and it is with the twin loves of my life - horses and politics - so lucky old me.

Every time you put something on here you seem to give people a new shiny reason to jump on you, I'd quit while you're ahead if I were you....

Nobody is making fun of you for having rich parents, just making fun of the fact that you think it justifies your patronising, condescending attitude and that you think having money makes you better than everybody else at everything.
I may be jealous of other riders with very rich parents e.g William Fox-Pitt, even Zara Phillips, although I'd hate all that attention (Mike Tindall's not bad though, that would ease the burden

) but they have humility, class and proven talent. You on the other hand.....

7 is nothing! try a welsh who will jump anything schooling up to 3ft but has severe issues leaving everyone else particularly his girlfriend at a comp, even if doing a 2' course.

So you are making assumptions again.

We are working on it though- I fall off at less of them.

PML - TT, again, you don't have a clue - it was baby horse's first time out at a XC - he actually hadn't seen a 'proper' XC fence before (though has had lots of pole work and jumping prep at home) and the event was designed for baby horses to come along and have a go at. The fences were no bigger than 2ft. He had a look at 6 of the 16 fences, (strangely enough I don't have the facilities to show him beehive fences, small drops and the like at home), got a pat for being brave enough to approach them, turned round and popped them. Absolutely fantastic, I was massively pleased with him.

Back in the day, you know, I used to event when BE was called the Horse Trials group. Even got placed one or twice. Wouldn't even think about overfacing my wonderful, happy youngster, but he has to go somewhere to start out and this was the perfect event for it! He had a fab day and came home happy with a lot of experience under his belt
