So since Oakley arrived I have done small bits of groundwork (which I think is so important, as well as showing him un-usual things) and taken him for a few walks in hand, he didn't have the best manners when he arrived, and a few personal space issues but nothing bad, just a typical baby that's been dragged out the field he lived in and sent to this new, strange place!

I decided a while ago that if I had a youngster I'd do some horse agility with it, well turns out there's a place 2 miles up the road that has training/competitions! So I contacted the lady that runs it and arranged for her to come to me and us have a little session before starting the agility at the next one on Jan 15th.

He's such a brave boy curiosity always gets the better of him and rather than run away he goes to check it out, I think already we've got quite a good relationship which is really nice :) I think he's great and so glad I took the risk on buying him. :D

He's so lovely, he's the spit of my friends sec d, he's very brave also and he's only 15months old. Can I ask if you know his breeding prefix xx

To be perfectly honest, this should be part of every horses training. what a difference it would make! I love the pic of him looking at the windmill. He looks as if he's giving it a look as if to say "Yeah?"
Gorgeous horse by the way :)

What a wonderful young chap you have!
Years ago I dd that with my youngster to help when eventually out and about, agility never new there was such a thing for horses now that is something I could get into!
I would say good luck but seeing those pics I don.'t think you will need it. Your wee chap is very very handsome.

Thank you all, I've always wondered why people don't do more like this with their youngsters. I just so want him to turn out a sensible, sane boy that I can get out and have some fun on. I love my other boy very much but he's very quirky and not much is very easy with him, I really hope Oaks will fill that void in a few years time. But I guess you just never know do you? I'm really fond of him though, he was a good find I reckon :D

His name is Llynllys Sians Delightfully Prince, his sire was Winton Sea Breeze (who has Winton, Brenig lines) and dam was Cefnisaf Sian who was sired by Nebo Daniel :)

He looks very chilled about it all i loved doing all the bombproofing with my welsh d when he was a baby and as a result he is very brave far from sane though unfortunately!

Oakley is such a dude! You also looked totally relaxed and chilled with him - great combination and will set you up to really succeed.

He he! Well so long as he's a little more genuine than the other ginger horse in my life I'm on to a winner!

He is a rather lovely young man. love what youre doing and you will reap reward for all your work with a lovely trusting sane

Thank you, it's so much fun, have wanted a youngster for so long and he's a real blank canvas which is nice. Can't wait for him to be old enough to back :D

Ohhhh he is a beauty 
Looks like he really trusts you too...lovely pics :)

I was really pleased as it made me realise we already even after only a few weeks have quite a good relationship, and the instructor was very complimentary on us both which was a nice boost, as sometimes Major does make me feel like a useless horsewomen!!

I did things like this with my girl from the day. Got her at 15 m this now at 3 and half she nannies ther spooky horses, cos she isn't scared of a thing. Wel done if more people did things like this 3 year olds wouldn't be as hard work and also grown up horses wouldn't be scared of so much. I always wanted a youngster and my girl is a babe, loved backing and breaking her I love her t the moon and back as my daughter would say

Great to hear it's paid off for you, I do think it's a good age to show them things as they're so inquisitive and into everything anyway! Curiosity certainly gets the better of him!

Oh my goodness...he is stunning! Great pics and fantastic upbringing you're giving him:)

Thank you very much :)

Those windmills look familiar... did you have Sheila?

I do agility with my 2 yo, she is bold as brass with most of it...the flags she bites if they touch her!

Yes I do, we play with ponies then eat cake :) We live very close to one another so its usually a regular thing.

She is a great trainer and RA, she helped me train my untouched yearling to be caught, touched and have her feet done. We tend to do agility with my young one and my riding horse, its a great de-spooker..
