Devastated, he was only 4 and a half, we bred him out of my arab mare. He was a wonky donkey but we loved him and he was cheeky and far too pretty to be a boy.
He started colicking on Friday night, got him to the vet, they tried hard to save him nut it wasn't to be.
RIP wonky donkey Oberon 21.6.025.12.11
Sorry to post such bad news this morning but I need to tell someone.

Very sorry to read such sad news today of all days. I hope you have many fond memories of Obi throughout his short life he spent with you. I bet he loved being owned by you.
Many hugs. X

You are all so lovely, thank you, it helps to know people who don't have to, do care.
Please can someone tell me how to get through today? I can't stop weeping and we are supposed to be unwrapping pressies and sharing a lovely day with my 2 (fairly grown up) children who are home for Christmas? Last Christmas was awful cos we were all ill and we promised we would have a good one this year to make up for it.
I also have the problem of Obi's 21 year old Mum who is at the vets with him. We don't have any other horses now and she is going to be lost without him too. I have the offer of a mare to loan but I'm not sure she will take to a stranger.

I read the thread title and was nearly sick - my beloved Arab is called Obi (short for Oberon) and for a moment there I thought he was gone.

It was just a tiny taste of the pain you are feeling. I'm so very sorry.

Thanks Oberon, I have read about your Obi, mine was arab too. He was born on Midsummers day hence we called him Oberon.
Yesterday when we thought we might lose him I had no idea of the pain that was to come.

I can feel a solid lump in my chest and it makes it hard to breathe when I read your posts.

My Obi is getting along in years and I often freak out about what's going to happen. The only thing that stops me losing my mind is to think that, at the end I can look him in the eye and know I've done everything I can to give him a good life.

You can look your Obi in the eye and know the same. He was loved and no horse could ask for more than that at the end. You couldn't have stopped what happened. Yesterday was just his time - short as it was.

Just get through today and then worry about tomorrow later.
