Thanks to all who gave advice on what to feed my pup when she comes home.
I promised a pic so here it is!! Will post more as i get them.

She is nameless at present, i am currently sweet talking OH.. She is just under 3 weeks.

If you're wondering whats all over her head, its weetabix. I know lots of you advised against this to wean onto but i dont want to say anything to the breeder!!
 
Ooo only cos I am Nosey !! :) she does look beautiful !! I hope she brings as much enjoyment to you as our girl has brought to us !!!

Not a huge one, you can sell it on and get a bigger one as she gets bigger.
I have a puppy guide I wrote for the rescue as they go out if you would like one (includes crate training) then drop me you email addy (its long):D and I will send you one.

Why? Why support poor breeding practices?

I don't particularly care about the bloodlines but no one should be stupid enough to buy a puppy from untested parents.

I got my cross breed at 6 weeks and hadn't met his parents. Does that make me stupid? No.
 
We went to rescues and they were useless. If we hadn't have bought our's he would have ended up in a rescue anyway. Doesn't make me stupid. What would make me stupid is if I bred from him. Which I won't. But as it stands we have a lovely healthy pup who fits perfectly with our family. There is no airtight way to guarantee a healthy pup.
 
Why is it that every bloomen time I venture back in (after being scared of by the last righteous comment) every puppy thread turns into an argument about the rights and wrongs of breeding ????

Honestly makes you frightened to post anything - I bred a litter from my Labrador, does that make me a bad person????:confused::confused:

Anyway, back on topic what a beautiful little pup, I hope you have a long happy time with her :)

I looked at rescues when i was looking for a dog but i was refused as i actually work for a living and couldnt be home all day. Dog would have been checked on every 2 1/2 hours but that wasnt good enough. So i bought a puppy from a breeder.
Does this make me bad? I dont think so!
 
Buying a responsibly bred dog is not a problem.

The ethical ways to get a dog are from a responsible breeder or from a rescue. Buying a poorly bred dog just perpetuates the problem.
Lila -a good breeder or a breed rescue would not have turned you away if a puppy was not left for more than 3 hours so I hope you didn't support a poor breeder.

IMO opinion it would depend. If you health tested both parents for all related health issues in the breed and scores where suficcient and you had homes reserved before breeding and they where from well bred specimens and you offer "back up for life for each puppy" to adulthood and beyond. Then indeed you where responsible, if not and you did no health tests and just bred for the sake of it then maybe not a bad person but definatley an irresponsible one.:)

Not detracting from OP and you are more than welcome for the puppy guide:)

I think s4sugar is saying, if you sourced the puppy responsibly and checked the parents where health tested and where not back street bred and therefor you where not encouraging/lining the pockets of puppy farms and back street breeders, then no you where responsible.:)

Both parents hip scored, and eye tested, (it was 12yrs ago so elbow scoring wasn't common place) and matched according to strengthens/weaknesses

Both parents had (as far as I was led to believe) good parentage... pedigree of the pups on the link below if anybodies interested

We had a list of people wanting homes, mostly friends, but sadly only 2 surviving pups, we kept one and the other went to a lady we knew through the local agility club. Our pup sadly died back in 2010 aged 10yrs old but I believe the other pup is still around as is mum who will reach the grand old age of 16 this october.:)

So from general opinion a responsible breeder perhaps? Still makes me wary to say on here that I bred a litter as a one off from my pet because I wanted to......

Willeeckers you sound like the sort of breeder that people should support. A nicely bred bitch, properly tested and taking guidance from her breeder.
Unfortunately too many people are happy to hand over cash to people who just slam two dogs together without a thought other than what they can make.

The breeder is not irresponsible, pup is well bred with good lines and parents have been health checked. They were not two dogs just 'slammed together without a thought other than what they can make'. Perhaps you ought to ask more questions before you deem me stupid thankyou.
Forgive me, this is my first puppy, i do not know the ins and outs of breeding a crufts standard dog.. but i know enough not to just hand over my money to anyone who hands me a cute fluffy mongrel.
I did initially ignore your comment, though it did offend me. However since it has since been brought up again i figured id post.

It's a shame to dampen someone's enthusiasm about a new pup: weirdly, I only ever had one detrimental comment about my youngsters (un health tested).

Stick with it, Toast, this place is more helpful than unhelpful, I promise.

The real sign of someone who has researched their purchase? I think not.
Health checked is not the same as health tested and why is the pup not registered? Usually this is because something is dodgy. What is their reason for this mating? It can't be to perpetuate a line or improve the breed if they haven't spent the £13 per puppy to register.
