How HOW is it October? it was only June a minute ago.
Anyway, what's everyone got planned?

I have a lesson shortly which is in dire need as it feels like the wheels went very wobbly even if they didn't come off while trainer was away. All in my head - horse is just fine!

Then old lorry has a re-test on Friday and assuming that is fine (hopefully should be, was only a minor thing) then i will spend the weekend scrubbing it ready to advertise. Sad to see it go, I have loved it but life moves on.

Hopefully get Kira out for a little trip on new lorry just to reinstall the sea-legs. I have a hack in mind to box to but the forecast looks a bit miserable for such an unhappy hacker, we'll see. Otherwise maybe a trip to hire a different indoor.

Another lesson booked for Wednesday :D

I am so sad that it is October and that it keeps getting darker earlier and earlier.

Going to a competition on Sunday, but it is outdoors and it looks like it is going to pour. Horse will still do his job, but if the footing is soup, I'm not sure the classes will still run. So we'll see. That would be the last one for this year, so I'd like it to work out.

Will do a short hack on Saturday and get tack and whatnot cleaned and organised.

No riding yet for me still, Charlie's foot is coming on well though. He's only wearing boots in the field during the day now, and I plan to take them off completely this weekend. Walking out in hand (with boots) will recommence this Saturday (not done it for 3 weeks due to holiday and other stuff) and all going well I will hopefully be back on him by the end of October! Just in time for the colder weather ;)

Well, a busy one this weekend!
Saturday am off to huge polo arena for stressage training session in the morning and sj early afternoon, all with RC who have it booked for the day.
Sunday am out with hacking chum and son to the local drag hunt fun ride.

I'm debating what to bridle B Fuzzy with at present for Sunday, as this is a very well supported ride with lots of jumps and been fully booked for ages! Hoping she won't get too daft.

Good luck to those competing and whatever you do, enjoy x

I had my first lesson post baby today!! It was amazing to be back out, and things all felt pretty normal. Also got a saddle to try from my coach so will give that a whirl this weekend.

I was going to ride with a friend tomorrow but it’s supposed to be very wet so we are going to do lunch instead. Will spend the rest of the weekend doing flat work and hacking.

Husband is judging this weekend so we might go and spectate.

Counting down to our first show jumping comp back.

I had the same thought as you MP - how is it that I have a to-do list for October in my work notebook now?! I'm sure it was August last week.

We had a fairly taxing lesson yesterday, followed by a sports massage for lucky Chilli. I could do with one myself... Diesel availability permitting, I'm picking up my lorry this weekend after its plating - it's going to be a pricey one as it was due a new clutch and various other fixes that I wanted before selling it next year. It's a very reliable little 7.5T but I've decided to treat myself to a blingy 4.5T!

I'll see what the weather does but probably a hack or two and a short schooling session other than that.

Lottie is still off games but we are taking Dolly to U18s training on Sunday.

Total time wasters have not bought my lorry having said they would - to the extent they claimed to have tried to sort insurance for it so they could take it home immediately. Then they said they would just have a quick chat about it and be in touch very soon. But have now just vanished and not said they are/are not having it. But I assume not as it’s been ages since they viewed. Why are people so inconsiderate? How hard is it to just ping a message over saying ‘not quite right for us’. Grrr

That's incredibly frustrating AE.

I'm not looking forward to trying to sell my lorry... Where have you advertised it? Any tips? The 4.5T coachbuilders will do a PX so I'll ask them what they'd give me for it, but I'm sure it will be far lower than if I sold it privately.

No idea how it's October either :(

Friday a TREC practice session. We've signed up for a winter league, so I should probably practice a bit ?

Saturday I've planned a fairly decent length ride which should have a coffee and cake opportunity ? If I have time, I want to go through my stuff and have a good pre-winter tidy up and sort out.

Sunday will be hacking again, most likely.

Lesson on Saturday but quiet apart from that. I'm shocked at how much the 4 days show the week before last took out of me. I'm definitely not firing on all cylinders yet. We are all good, and we are fully up and running in the new indoor school, so set up nicely for winter training. The show highlighted what we need to work on, so it's a good start to the offseason. I also need to talk to my yard owner about getting Amber hacking solo, another winter project.

I feel your pain, AE! We still haven't sold ours either but I seem to spend a lot of time replying to messages and answering questions when the information is clearly stated in the advert!

We're going to give it a go advertising mine but if it doesn't sell privately relatively quickly then will probably put in an auction - saves the hassle. May be an option? depends how quickly you need the space/cash i guess.

Had a great lesson this afternoon. I'd put the passage to one side for a bit because we were at the point where some help on the ground was needed to improve it, so I'd been working on her understanding the piaffe aid better (getting there :D)
anyway, today she managed some really promising steps, we tinkered around with different transitions in and out to help her understand that she had to be light in the hand which made a big difference. i think the piaffe work has helped her strength behind too because she was much more active with the hindlegs  Although it feels like slow progress the biggest thing this year is that she's learned to produce this work from an *aid* instead of from controlled tension. it feels a bit quiet to start with but with time and practice she's figuring out how to make more expression.

Definitely back on track now :)

As I was home in good time this eve i thought it was time Hera started learning about wearing clothes, I'd picked up a bargain Rambo a few weeks ago which is a teeny bit roomy but not outrageously so. She was a bit nervous to start with but was soon happily chomping her hay wearing it. Frank didn't recognise her and kept whickering at his new navy blue friend :p

I had a little play with new share horse in the school this week. The share is mainly for hacking but it was interesting to watch owner ride then get on myself, just few 5 mins or so. I really, really like this mare. It was strange riding a new horse in the school for the first time (it always is!) but I felt totally safe with her. Owner seemed really pleased with how we looked together (relief!) and got some video for me to watch back which is really helpful.

I'm hacking with friend tomorrow, not too sure about it tbh. I'm more nervous on these hacks than RS ones or even with new share horse. The horse I ride with my friend is an absolute saint so it's not him and I feel bad about that because it's not his fault. Hopefully tomorrow will be good though. A good ride out could turn it around I think.

Sunday might go watch a local hunter trial, and hacking with share horse which I am very looking forward to!

Milliepops no idea about auction but that’s sounds a good idea. Where would I find out info?

I forgot I was starting an Adult Advanced Riding Course at a local Equestrian college this evening. ‘Advanced’ in a riding school sense so it was all quite basic but I was pathetically pleased to get good feedback. It’s been so long since I’ve felt anything but crappy about my riding as everything since Amber has felt like a struggle and improvements seem so hard to come by. But she said it was lovely to see the horse working correctly as not many students get her going so well. I’ll take that!

Pepsi has had a few days off after camp while I’ve been away. He’s got the physio on Saturday. might take both boys to the beach on Sunday with a friend on H, but the forecast means we might abandon that plan for a play in the indoor ?

H is off to his new home on Monday, so will also spend the weekend doing a bit with him and just generally enjoying him for the last few days he’s here ?

How rude with your lorry. I sold mine just as lockdown ended and had loads of time wasters. One woman was such a bad driver I was terrified on the test drive! Prices seem to be much higher now though ?
I have a lesson with Rui campeo tomorrow, which is always enjoyable, even if I can’t walk afterwards ?
then Sunday baby pony does prelim , all good except canter transition still very much a work in progress and there is a 90% chance it will actually be a walk and trot test. Sadly she won her first intro and my riding club has a win intro move to prelim level so prelim it is. On the upside we might be in the running for most improved across the series, assuming we get canter in the next few months !

Hmm not pleased with the cold snap and rain forecast. Off to a sponsored ride Sunday so will see if we get soaked. I’m a bit of a fair weather rider ! But I’ve paid for it and am meeting a friend there so will hope we can avoid a total deluge. And I’ll take spare clothes if we do. Taking Finn as he’s a dude at rides like this and it will help with his fitness work as I’d like to get him out drag hunting a couple of times.

Saturday I’ll potter about the yard. If the ground is ok (and given this rain it should be!) we’ll out some jumps out in the field for Bertie as I haven’t jumped him much and need some practice before camp. I swore I’d never do an Oct camp again after the rain soaked one a few years ago but here I am again ? although this time with an Airbnb booked nearby, or else I wouldn’t have booked it!

Have fun all and hope you don’t get too soggy.

PS on the lorry sales, my friend is selling hers through central England Horseboxes. He takes a % but does the prep and selling. It’s not sold yet but she didn’t want the hassle of dealing with the sale.

So here’s to a bit longer waking up to these views..
