Okay, this is really hardly to explain to you guys!

My horse is pooing normally, eating normally, working normally, no change in behaviour etc. But since he was wormed a couple of weeks ago, he constantly has loose dribbles of diorreah and he doesn't look very comfortable when this happens.

At first, I thought it was down to the wormer, should only last a couple of days, but its gone on for just over two weeks now. Its at the point where I have to clean his bum and his legs everyday, as it looks disgusting, and I don't want it to rub when he's working.

Has anyone got an idea what this could be?

I was speaking to the lady who is stabled next to me, and said that quite often, she hears him farting alot, and grunting, not sounding very comfortable, and she truely believes he has an ulcer. Which I'm still a bit unconvinced, he has ablib hay, out for around 6 hours a day, worked 5 times a week atleast, and is fed chaff, baileys top line conditioning cubes and garlic. She said that perhaps I could try him on a pro-biotic supplement to see if this helps, which could be a good option, but wondered what others thought?

I am also going to restrict turn out at the weekend to two hours incase its just the grass thats a bit to rich for him at the moment and see if that makes a difference.

or if no difference ask a vet! Has anyone had this problem before? What did you do to resolve? Any advice appreciated :0) xx

My horse gets this from time to time too. He will be stood outside his stable and then all of a sudden will lift and swish his tail around madly and start lifting and stamping his back legs, at the same time he will have a cascade of watery diarrohea fall onto the floor. Then half an hour later he will have a poo and it will be very soft. He is 12 but has had repeat colic episodes of spasmodic gassy colic for the last five years. We are on an old dairy farm so the grazing is quite rich. He is out for 4/5 hours a day and has pink powder but every now and then he will get gassy colic. Wehn this happens he has 3 or 4 bute and is put on the walker for 20 mins then put back in his stable. If he doesn't show any colicky signs he is fine. The vet has suggested I do this and out of the 30 plus colicky episodes he's had only 4 times have I needed to get a vet to give him an injection. Its always been gassy colic thank goodness. It is worrying but I dont want it investigated as I feel it is manageable and since the pink powder and reduced turnout he has been a lot better than previously. What I would suggest is that give your horse sloppy feeds/wet hay if he has diarrohea as it is easy for them to get dehydrated quickly. I'd also put him on pink powder as it is very well priced and economical to use.
