Hacked Pidge this morning so he had his breakfast about 12. He was quite sweaty under his saddle so washed him off. Because he was still wet I didn't put a sheet on him, he's not clipped yet, as it was supposed to be quite warm. However brought him in tonight for his tea and normally he doesn't even come up for air, but he had a drink first, and then was like oh there's my tea I suppose I ought to eat it. He then had another drink after eating his tea. He felt cold and his ears were cold too. I did a pinch test on his skin and it was fine so not dehydrated. I put his 100g rambo duo with neck on and turned him out where he went and had another drink. They have been in the past three nights as field so wet and we have also opened up a fresh part of the field three days ago. It's just so not like Pidge to wolf his tea down that I am a little worried - did check him when poo picking and he had warmed up a bit. Feel like a really really BAD mother at the moment.

Is easily done at the moment - I ummed and aared about ruigging my ned after our hack this morning. Expect he just got a bit chilly and felt a bit down, he'll be OK when he warms up...poor boy! Its a nightmare choosing which jarmies they need...

So you wouldn't be too worried then? He is ISH and does feel the cold. Didn't realise how cold the wind was otherwise I would have put his rug on. Will feel a lot better after he has had breakfast in the morning - as long as he is back to his normal "I am a hoover" self!

If you opened up a new part of the field 3 days ago, could it be that he has had enough grass to take the edge off his appetite?

No, he is an absolute pig as regards food, doesn't matter how much grass he has had he still wolfs his food down! We regulary rest part of the field as there is only mine and sisters horse on there, never done this before even after going on to fresh part.

I can assure you it is not the cold - but more likely it is just one of those days we all get occasionally where we are just not ourself. He could not have drunk out of the new field as to him the water through makes the water taste unusual.

Just keep an eye on him, more than likely he will be fine.

Having met the big furball in person, I would've thought the likelihood of him freezing his socks off at the mo was pretty slight & he's probably just having an off day but some horses do feel the cold more than others of course!

Was he really cold? In winter, the tips of SWO's ears can be cold as ice but if you cup your hand firmly round the base of her ears or place a hand on the inside of her upper thigh area, she'll be warm as toast!
LBO feels the cold & if it spreads to the base of his ears, then his rug goes on but even he is still prancing round naked at the mo!

First chance to come one here since this morning. Pidge was back to normal this morning so I can only assume he was either having an off day (extemely unusual) or was cold. He was cold yesterday as even the base of his ears was cold, so asked sister to leave his 100gm rambo duo on today, its breathable so if it gets hot he won't get sweaty. I suppose it was the TB in him that meant he was cold. Will see how he is tonight when get to the yard.
He's having his teeth done on Thursday so will get the vet to give him a quick check just to make sure, not that I worry about my horse - MUCH
